Kuching Cat Museum
The Kuching Cat Museum ( ms, Muzium Kucing Kuching) is a cat museum in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It was founded in 1993. It is owned by the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU). History The idea of building a cat museum was mooted by Sarawak chief minister Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Laila Taib. Collections There are four galleries containing over 4,000 artefacts including paintings and memorials related to cats. Exhibits include a mummified cat from ancient Egypt, a gallery of feline-related advertising, and the five species of wild cats found in Borneo. These artefacts were acquired from National Museum in Kuala Lumpur and were displayed for the first time on 1 August 1988 at Dewan Tun Abdul Razak, Putra World Trade Centre. The collections were handed over to DBKU after the completion of DBKU headquarters in 1992. The Commission of Kuching North City Hall ( ms, Suruhanjaya Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara, abbreviated DBKU) is the commission which administers the northern part of the city of Kuching in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. This commission was established after the city was officially granted city status on 1 August 1988. Their jurisdiction covers an area of 369.48 square kilometres. The commission consists of the commissioner plus nine commission members appointed to serve a one-year term by the Sarawak State Government. Abdul Taib bin Mahmud ( Jawi: عبدالطيب بن محمود; born 21 May 1936) is a Malaysian politician who has served as the 7th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak since March 2014. He served as the 4th Chief Minister of Sarawak for 33 years, from March 1981 to February 2014, making him the longest-serving head of government of a Malaysian state.
