Kryve Ozero ( uk, Криве Озеро, russian: Кривое Озеро) is an urban-type settlement in Pervomaisk Raion in the northwest of Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Kryve Ozero settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: The settlement is located on the banks of the Kodyma, a right tributary of the Southern Bug. History Kryve Ozero was founded in 1762. In the 1920s, Kryve Ozero belonged to Odessa Governorate. In 1923, uyezds in Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic were abolished, and the governorates were divided into okruhas. In 1923, Kryve Ozero Raion with the administrative center in Kryve Ozero was established. It belonged to Pervomaisk Okruha. Israel Wachser (; 1892 – 24 May 1919) was a Russian writer of Yiddish and Hebrew short stories and children's literature. Biography Wachser was born to Aryeh Yehuda-Leib ha-Kohen in , Russian Empire. He was educated by his father, who served as rabbi in the town (later in Tulchin and Pestshan, Podolia), was well-versed in Russian, Hebrew, and Yiddish literature, and occasionally contributed to the Maskilic Hebrew periodicals ''Ha-Melitz'', '' Ha-Tzfira'', and '. By the beginning of World War I, Wachser had begun working as a teacher in Kiev, and writing Hebrew and Yiddish poetry and prose. In 1916, he took a teaching position in a school for refugees in Baku, but was forced to flee the city amid the beginning of the Armenian–Azerbaijani War. He hastily destroyed most of his writings before leaving, although his older brother was able to save the remaining part of his work. An okruha ( uk, округа) is an historical administrative division of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic that existed between 1923 and 1930. The system was intended as a transitional system between the Russian Imperial division of governorates and the modern equivalent of oblasts.
