Kroměříž Proclamation
The Kroměříž Proclamation was a petition initiative started on 21 May 2016 by Michael Kocáb, with the aim of finding a candidate for the 2018 Czech presidential election who could defeat incumbent Miloš Zeman. Jiří Ovčáček, Zeman's spokesman, said that the Kroměříž Proclamation was a "kiss of death" for any candidate who ran with its support. It was signed by more than 11,000 people. The Proclamation originally intended to support Michal Horáček, but he declined. Jiří Pospíšil was later speculated to be the Proclamation's candidate. Petr Kolář was also considered. The Proclamation announced on 15 December 2016 that potential candidates included Marek Hilšer, Petr Pithart and Pavel Fischer. Only Hilšer indicated that he could accept the Proclamation's support. 2018 Czech Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in the Czech Republic in January 2018. The first round took place on 12 and 13 January. As no candidate won a majority, a run-off election between the top two candidates, Jiří Drahoš and President Miloš Zeman, was held on 26 and 27 January 2018. In the first round, voters chose between nine candidates who qualified for the elections either by gathering 50,000 signatures from the public, 10 signatures from Senators or 20 signatures from members of the Chamber of Deputies (MPs). Incumbent president Miloš Zeman, running for re-election for his second and last term, finished first with 38.57%, followed by former President of the Czech Academy of Sciences Jiří Drahoš, who received 26.60%. Miloš Zeman
Miloš Zeman (; born 28 September 1944) is a Czech politician serving as the third and current President of the Czech Republic since 2013. He previously served as the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from 1998 to 2002. As leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party during the 1990s, he is credited with the revival of the party into one of the country's major political forces. Zeman briefly served as the President of the Chamber of Deputies from 1996 to 1998. Michal Horáček
Michal Horáček (born 23 July 1952) is a Czech entrepreneur, lyricist, poet, writer, journalist and music producer. From 2007 until 2010, he was the chairman of the Czech Academy of Popular Music. He founded Czech betting company Fortuna. Jiří Pospíšil (born 24 November 1975) is a Czech Republic, Czech politician, who was leader of TOP 09 from November 2017 until November 2019. As a deputy for the Civic Democratic Party (Czech Republic), Civic Democratic Party, Pospíšil served twice as Ministry of Justice (Czech Republic), Czech Minister of Justice: between 2006 and 2009 under Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, and then again from 2010 to 2012 in the Petr Nečas' Cabinet, government of Petr Nečas. Petr Kolář
Petr Kolář (born 27 September 1962) is a Czech politician. He served as ambassador to Russia from 2010 through 2012. He is currently a senior advisor to the law firm of Squire Patton Boggs in Prague. Early life Kolář graduated from Charles University in Prague in 1986 with majors in information technology, library science and ethnography. Marek Hilšer
Marek Hilšer (born 23 March 1976) is a Czech politician and university lecturer who has served as the senator for Prague 2 since 2018. He also stood in the 2018 and 2023 Czech presidential elections. Biography Hilšer was born in Chomutov in 1976. His family emigrated from Czechoslovakia in 1989 but returned in 1990. He studied Public Relations at Charles University and went to the United States in 1999, where he had jobs including working as a plumber and digger. He returned to the Czech Republic in 2004 and studied Medicine at Charles University. In 2007, he became a scientist at the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University. Pavel Fischer
Pavel Fischer (born 26 August 1965) is a Czech politician and diplomat who has been Senator from Prague 12 since 2018. Fischer previously served as Czech Ambassador to France from 2003 to 2010. He was a candidate in the presidential elections of 2018, when he finished third with 10.23% of the vote, and 2023, when he finished fourth with 6.75% of the vote.
