Kristian Skrede Gleditsch
Kristian Skrede Gleditsch (born 9 October 1971 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian political scientist and a professor at the University of Essex, holding the title of Regius Professor. His main fields of research are on the topics of conflict, democratistation and non-violent mobilisation. Education and Career Gleditsch holds a cand.mag. degree from the University of Oslo (1993), and a PhD in political science from the University of Colorado (1999). He was a researcher at the University of Glasgow and the University of California San Diego before moving on to Essex in 2005. Since 2003 he has also held a minor position at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and in 2007-2011 he received a major "Young Excellent Researcher" grant from the Research Council of Norway. In 2013, he received a Starting Grant from the European Research Council. Nils Petter Gleditsch (born 17 July 1942 in Sutton, Surrey, Great Britain) is a Norwegian sociologist and political scientist. He is Research Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). In 2009, Nils Petter Gleditsch was awarded the annual ''Award for Outstanding Research'' by the Research Council of Norway. He won the Norwegian Sociological Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. In 1982 he was convicted in Norway of a violation of the national security paragraphs of the penal code, in the Wilkes/Gleditsch trial. His prison sentence was suspended. The Karl Deutsch Award is awarded by the International Political Science Association (IPSA) each year an IPSA World Congress of Political Science is held. The recipient of the award presents the Karl Deutsch Lecture or leads a special session at the World Congress. The purpose of the award is to honour a prominent scholar engaged in cross-disciplinary research. It was named after the prominent political scientist Karl Deutsch.
