Kreis Jerwen
Jerwen County (german: Kreis Jerwen, german: Kreis Weissenstein, et, Järva kreis, et, Paide kreis, russian: Йервенский уезд, russian: Вейсенштейнский уезд) was one of the four counties of the Russian Empire located in the Governorate of Estonia. It was situated in the central part of the governorate (in present-day northern Estonia). Its capital was Paide (''Weissenstein''). The territory of Kreis Jerwen corresponds to most of the present-day Järva County and small parts of Lääne-Viru and Rapla counties. Demographics At the time of the Russian Empire Census of 1897, Kreis Jerwen had a population of 52,673. Paide is a town in Estonia and the capital of Järva County, one of the 15 counties of Estonia. Järva County ( et, Järva maakond or ''Järvamaa''; german: Jerwen; la, Jervia) is one of 15 counties of Estonia. It is situated in the central part of the country and borders Lääne-Viru County to the east, Jõgeva County to the south-east, Viljandi County to the south, Pärnu County to the south-west, Rapla County to the west, and Harju County to the north. The first general census of the population of the Russian Empire in 1897 ( pre-reform Russian: ) was the first and only nation-wide census performed in the Russian Empire (the Grand Duchy of Finland was excluded). It recorded demographic data as of . Previously, the Central Statistical Bureau issued statistical tables based on fiscal lists (ревизские списки).
