Koçarlı
Koçarlı is a town and a district of Aydın Province, in the Aegean region of Turkey, from the city of Aydın. Geography Koçarlı today is a small town of 6,534 people and although there is an institute of Adnan Menderes University and thus a small student population, the population of the area is shrinking as people take their families to seek education and careers in Turkey's larger cities. This is an attractive district of agricultural villages in the middle of the Büyük Menderes River valley on hillsides above the Koçarlı River. The main crops are cotton, olives and pine nuts, other activities include grazing animals and producing other crops including figs and chestnuts. Industry is basically factories for processing these crops and repairing farm implements with the exception of an aluminum processing plant nearby. Amyzon (city)
Amyzon ( grc, Ἀμυζών) in Caria (now Mazin, Aydın Province between the villages of Akmescit and Gaffarlar, in Aegean Turkey) was an ancient city 30 km south of modern Koçarlı. History The city was in the Athenian alliance in 405BC Under the Seleucids, Amyzon was one of the cities in the Chrysaorian League of Carian cities that lasted at least until 203 BC, when Antiochus III confirmed the privileges of Amyzon. The League had a form of reciprocal citizenship whereby a citizen of a member city was entitled to certain rights and privileges in any other member city. The city was dismissed by Strabo as a mere ''peripolion'' ('suburb' or 'township') of Alabanda; Amyzon was mentioned by Pliny, Ptolemy and Hierocles. In the wars among the successors of Alexander, in the 3rd century BC, the city allied with the less immediately threatening power, first with the Ptolemies, then with the Seleucids. Aydın Province
Aydın Province ( tr, ) is a province of southwestern Turkey, located in the Aegean Region. The provincial capital is the city of Aydın which has a population of almost 200,000 (2012). Other towns in the province include the summer seaside resorts of Didim and Kuşadası. Derebey
A derebey ( tr, valley lord) was a feudal lord in Anatolia and the Pontic areas of Lazistan and Adjara in the 18th century, with considerable independence from the central government of the Ottoman Empire. Derebeys were required to provide military assistance in time of war, but ruled and administered their own territories, in full freedom in practical terms, and often forming local dynasties. Their emergence were often sparked by the gradual abandon of the timar system administered by the military fiefdom of sipahis, and the tendency of the central government to sub-contract tax revenues as of the 18th century, receiving a determined sum from the derebey and outsourcing on them the task of collecting from the taxpayers themselves.
