Koyama Press is a comics publishing company founded in 2007 by Annie Koyama and based in Canada. Since its establishment in 2007, Koyama Press has sought to promote and provide support to an array of emerging and established artists. These artists include Michael DeForge, Jesse Jacobs, Rokudenashiko, and Julia Wertz. Koyama Press funds and produces a diverse collection of publications and artist's projects. Projects include comics, art books, exhibitions, prints, and zines. Koyama Press has announced its scheduled closure in 2021. Recognition Koyama Press won the Joe Shuster Award for Outstanding Comic Book Publisher in 2011. Perseus Books Group was an American publishing company founded in 1996 by investor Frank Pearl. Perseus acquired the trade publishing division of Addison-Wesley (including the Merloyd Lawrence imprint) in 1997. It was named Publisher of the Year in 2007 by ''Publishers Weekly'' magazine for its role in taking on publishers formerly distributed by Publishers Group West and acquiring Avalon Publishing Group. Michael DeForge
Michael DeForge (born 1987) is a Canadian comics artist and illustrator. Biography DeForge grew up in Ottawa and attended the University of Toronto, dropping out after two years. He lives and works in Toronto. According to DeForge, he has "always been drawing cartoons" and learned to read and draw from his parents' comic strip collections such as ''Bloom County'', ''Far Side'', ''Peanuts'' and ''Calvin and Hobbes''. He has described ''Peanuts'' as his all-time favorite cartoon strip. He read and tried to draw in the style of superhero comics until junior high and high school. He has described his early comics as "just these dinky revenge cartoons" in response to having been "picked on a lot growing up". , who uses the pseudonym , is a Japanese sculptor and manga artist who creates works that feature female genitalia and are often modeled after her own vulva. Rokudenashiko considers it her mission to reclaim female genitalia as part of women's bodies and demystify them in Japan's male dominated society, where she believes that they are "overly hidden" and marginalized as “taboo” and “obscene” in comparison to phallic imagery.
