Koumanis
Koumanis ( el, Κούμανης, also Κούμανι - ''Koumani'') is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Foloi, Elis (regional unit), Elis, Greece. Its population in 2011 was 498 for the village and 506 for the community, which includes the small villages Ai Giannakis and Kastania. Koumanis is located at 650 m above sea level, at the northern edge of the Foloi oak forest. The small rivers Gkoura and Koumaneiko form deep ravines near Koumanis. Its climate is cool during the summer and wet during the winter. Koumanis is 3 km east of the village Foloi, 3 km southeast of Antroni, 9 km southwest of Lampeia and 20 km northeast of Olympia, Greece, Olympia. The inhabitants of Koumanis and the neighbouring village Antroni were known for their bravery during the Greek War of Independence. Foloi ( el, Φολόη, Latin: ''Pholoe'') is a village and a former Communities and Municipalities of Greece, municipality in Elis (regional unit), Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Olympia, Greece, Archaia Olympia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 174.202 km2. Lampeia (Greek: Λάμπεια, before 1928: Δίβρη - ''Divri'', between 1928 and 1929: Πρινόφυτον - ''Prinofyton'') is a mountain village, a community and a former municipality in Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Archaia Olympia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 72.447 km2. Elis or Ilia ( el, Ηλεία, ''Ileia'') is a historic region in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. It is administered as a regional unit of the modern region of Western Greece. Its capital is Pyrgos. Until 2011 it was Elis Prefecture, covering the same territory. The modern regional unit is nearly coterminous with the ancient Elis of the classical period. Foloi Oak Forest
The Folóï oak forest ( el, Δρυοδάσος Φολόης) is an oak forest in southwestern Greece. It is located in the municipal unit Foloi, Elis, in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The Folóï oak forest is situated at an altitude of 688m, on the plateau of the Folóï mountain. It is an ecosystem unique in the Balkan peninsula and consists of a territory of , which is almost entirely covered by deciduous oaks that form a dense forest area. Mythology The Pholóē oak forest was known to Ancient Greeks, because of its proximity to many of their settlements in the Elis region. The mysterious beauty of the forest inspired them to believe that it was a habitat of centaurs and dryads. Antroni
Antroni ( el, Αντρώνι) is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Lasiona, Elis, Lasiona, Elis (regional unit), Elis, Greece. The community consists of the villages Antroni, Panopoulo, Zachareika and Chania Spartoulia. Antroni is situated near the Foloi oak forest, on a small plateau between deep and narrow river valleys. It is 1 km north of Foloi, 10 km southwest of Lampeia and 19 km northeast of Olympia, Greece, Olympia. The Greek National Road 33 (Patras - Tripoli, Greece, Tripoli) runs through Panopoulo and Chania Spartoulia. According to Greek mythology Heracles used a net to catch the Erymanthian Boar in a gorge near Antroni. Antroni was part of the municipality of Lampeia between the 1830s and 1912.
