Kotayk Brewery
Kotayk Brewery ( hy, «Կոտայք» գարեջրի գործարան ), is a brewing company founded in 1974 in Abovyan, Kotayk Province, Armenia. History Kotayk Brewery was founded in 1974, as a state-owned enterprise by the government of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, with a limited scale of production. After the completion of the entire equipment, the factory started large-scale production in 1978. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Gagik Tsarukyan took over the brewery in 1995 and started to produce beer under the brands ''Kotayk'' and ''Artsakh''. In 1997, Castel Group became the major shareholders of the brewery through an investment of US$17 million, being one of the earliest foreign investors in Armenia. Abovyan
Abovyan or Abovian ( hy, Աբովյան), is a town and urban municipal community in Armenia within the Kotayk Province. It is located northeast of Yerevan and southeast of the province centre Hrazdan. As of the 2011 census, the population of the town is 43,495, down from 59,000 reported at the 1989 census. Currently, the town has an approximate population of 44,900 as per the 2020 official estimate. With a motorway and railway running through the city connecting Yerevan with the areas of the northeast, Abovyan is considered a satellite city of the Armenian capital. Gagik Tsarukyan ( hy, Գագիկ Ծառուկյան; born 25 November 1956) is an Armenian businessman, politician, and former athlete. Tsarukyan is the founder and leader of the Prosperous Armenia political party. He also owns various large-scale businesses and is believed to be one of the richest men in Armenia. Announcing his departure from politics for a hiatus in February 2015, he announced his return to politics in January 2017, forming the parliamentary Tsarukyan Alliance, an electoral alliance made up of Prosperous Armenia, the Alliance Party and the Mission Party. Beer has been produced in Armenia since ancient times. In the 5th century BCE, after arriving at a village in Ancient Armenia, Xenophon wrote in the Anabasis that "There were stored wheat, barley, vegetables, and barley wine in the craters (clay pots). Kotayk ( hy, Կոտայք, ), is a province ('' marz'') of Armenia. It is located at the central part of the country. Its capital is Hrazdan and the largest city is Abovyan.
