Korogwe Urban District
Korogwe Urban District (or Korogwe Town Council) is one of the eleven districts of the Tanga Region of Tanzania. The District covers an area of . Korogwe Urban District is bordered to the north by Korogwe Rural District and to the south by Handeni Rural District. The administrative capital of the district is Korogwe town. According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of Korogwe Urban District was 68,308. Transport Paved trunk road T2 from Dar es Salaam to Arusha passes through the district. As of 2021,there are 31 regions of Tanzania which are divided into 184 districts (Swahili: wilaya). In 2016, Songwe Region was created from the western part of Mbeya Region. Arusha City is a Tanzanian city and the regional capital of the Arusha Region, with a population of 416,442 plus 323,198 in the surrounding Arusha District Council (2012 census). Korogwe
Korogwe is a town in Tanzania, with a population of 56,282 in 2012. It is the main centre of Korogwe District, which is within the Tanga Region. Overview The town is the seat of the Anglican Diocese of Tanga and has a cathedral church dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels. It also has a teacher training college and a number of secondary schools. The district is drained by tributaries of the Pangani River. Health care The Magunga district hospital is the home of the NIMR Korogwe Research Laboratory. The building was designed by the Danish architect Jakob Knudsen (see also picture below). Great effort was taken to adapt the building to local environment and climate. The building was officially opened on 19 September 2008 and has since been used to support malaria vaccine trials.
