Korean Series
The Korean Series is the final championship series of the KBO League. It has been held since the KBO League's first season in and is the final series of the post-season play-offs. From to 2013, the winner of the Korean Series went on to play in the Asia Series. The teams finishing in third and fourth place in the regular season face each other in the first round of the play-offs. The winner of the first round faces the team that finished in second place during the regular season, and the winner of that round faces the team that finished in first place for the championship in the Korean Series. The Wild Card Game between the teams finishing in fourth and fifth place in the regular season was added to the KBO League postseason in 2015. KBO League
The KBO League (), officially the Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League, is the highest level league of baseball in South Korea. The KBO League was founded with six franchises in 1982 and is the most popular sports league in South Korea. The Kia Tigers are the most successful team, having won 11 of the 40 championships. Kim Eung-ryong
Kim Eung-Ryong (born September 15, 1941, in Pyongwon, South Pyongan, Korea) is a Korean baseball manager. He is the winningest manager in the history of Korean professional baseball, having won ten Korean Series championships throughout his career. He was the manager of the Haitai Tigers (1983–2000), Samsung Lions (2001–2004), and Hanwha Eagles (2013–2014). Biography He studied in the United States, attending Georgia Southern College, and then returned to Korea. He played outfield for the South Korea national baseball team in the 1962 Asian Baseball Championship, which ended up winning a Bronze Medal. Kim managed the amateur baseball team sponsored by Haitai from 1964 to 1981. During that period he managed the South Korean team to its first international title in the 1977 Intercontinental Cup. Hanhwa Eagles
The Hanwha Eagles ( ko, 한화 이글스) are a South Korean professional baseball team based in Daejeon. They are a member of the KBO League. The Eagles' home ballpark is Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium. The Eagles have won the Korean Series once, in 1999, and the league pennant twice. As of 2022, the Eagles have played in the postseason 13 times, being the runner-up in the Korean Series five times. Kim Jung-soo (baseball)
Kia Tigers ( ko, KIA 타이거즈) are a South Korean professional baseball team founded in 1982 and based in the southwestern city of Gwangju. Until 2001, they were known as the Haitai Tigers. The Tigers are a members of the KBO League and are the most successful team in Korean baseball, having won the national Korean Series championship 11 times with a perfect 11–0 record. Their home stadium is Gwangju-Kia Champions Field in Gwangju. After the success of the 1980s and 1990s, the fortunes of the team began to turn, resulting in them finishing bottom of the league for the first time in 2005, and again in 2007. Lotte Giants
The Lotte Giants ( ko, 롯데 자이언츠) are a South Korean professional baseball team based in Busan. They are a member of the KBO League. The Lotte Giants are owned by Lotte Corporation, which also owns the Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball. From 1982 through 1986, they played at Gudeok Baseball Stadium and since then have played at Sajik Baseball Stadium. They have won the Korean Series twice, in 1984 and 1992.
