Konrad Hoffmann (russian: Конрад Генрихович Гофман, Konrad Genrikhovich Gofman; Pokrovskaya sloboda, 1894 – Andijan, 1977) was a Soviet–Volga German politician. From 1938 to 1941, he served as the last head of state of the Volga German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, Volga German ASSR. Biography Hoffmann was born in the Samara Governorate of the Russian Empire; he came from a working-class family. During World War I, he served in the Imperial Russian Army and fought in the Caucasus campaign. From 1918 to 1936 he worked as an assistant Train driver, driver, then as a locomotive driver in the town of Engels, Saratov Oblast, Engels. The Volga German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (german: Autonome Sozialistische Sowjetrepublik der Wolgadeutschen; russian: Автономная Советская Социалистическая Республика Немцев Поволжья, Avtonomnaya Sovetskaya Sotsialisticheskaya Respublika Nemtsev Povolzh'ya), abbreviated as the Volga German ASSR, was an autonomous republic of the Russian SFSR. Its capital city was Engels (known as Pokrovsk or Kosakenstadt before 1931) located on the Volga River.
