Kongpo
Kongpo () is a region of central-eastern Tibet, centered in modern Gongbo'gyamda County, Nyingchi Prefecture. It is situated on the Nyang River, a northern tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. Kongpo Drula Gonpa is the oldest and largest monastery in the region, founded by Khenchen Dawa Sangpo in 14th century. Kongpo Drula Khenchen is the highest Lama of Kongpo. Kongpo was an area of southeastern Tibet in the premodern period. Tsagong was one of the holy places of Kongpo and still is. Thang Tong Gyalpo, a famous architect and yogi, founded Manmogang Monastery, where the original Samding Dorje Phagmo died. Nearby are the mines from which Thang Tong Gyalpo obtained the iron for some of his bridges. Sonam Dolma Brauen
Sonam Dolma Brauen (born 1953) is a Tibetan-Swiss contemporary painter and sculptor. Life and career Early life Sonam Dolma was born in Kongpo, Tibet (today Kongpo, Gongbo'gyamda County, Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibetan Autonomous Region, China), the daughter of Kunsang (''Mola'') Wangmo, a former '' Bhikkhuni'', and Tsering. The family left eastern Tibet when the 14th Dalai Lama refuged in 1959 to Dharamshala in northern India, crossing the Himalayas on foot. Sonam's father and her younger sister died on the journey. Sonam grew up in nearby Dharamsala, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, during the Sino-Indian War. In autumn 1962, the family had to move to Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, where Sonam took a job waitressing in a Tibetan restaurant. Thangtong Gyalpo () (1385 CE–1464 CE or 1361 CE–1485 CE), also known as Chakzampa, the "Iron Bridge Maker" (), Tsöndrü Zangpo "Excellent Persistence" (), and the King of the Empty Plain.Sarah Harding. Nyang River
The Nyang River (; ; also transliterated as Niyang or Nanpan) is a major river in south-west Tibet and the second largest tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo River by discharge. The Nyang has a length of 307.5 km and originates at 5,000 meters above the sea level from the Cuomuliangla in the Goikarla Rigyu, west of the Mila Mountain. The river joins the Yarlung Tsangpo in Cemeng, Nyingchi, 2,580 meters below its source. Its largest tributary is the Ba River. It flows past the town of Bayi where it is crossed by the Bayi Zanchen bridge. The Nyang River valley has an area of 24,800 km2, including 175,700 mǔ (117 km2) of cultivated land, 209,800 mǔ (140 km2) of usable wasteland, 24.75 million mǔ (16,500 km2) of forestry land, and 12 million mǔ (8,000 km2) of usable grassland. Gongbo'gyamda County
Gongbo'gyamda County (; ) is a county of Nyingchi (or Nyingtri) City in the Tibet Autonomous Region, lying approximately east of Lhasa at its central point. Its main geographical feature is Basum Tso, a green lake about above sea level. History In 1587, Gyampo Monastery was established. Subsequently, a town named "Gyamda", meaning "valley outlet of Gyampo", was developed near the monastery. The region was originally under control of Kingdom of Derge, Derge Gyalpos. After the Qing Dynasty took over Derge, the region was managed by the Ganden Phodrang, Tibetan Government as Gyamda Dzong. In 1960, Gyamda Dzong merged with West Dengke Dzong to form the modern Gongbo'gyamda Dzong. Nyingchi Prefecture
Nyingchi (), also known as Linzhi and as Nyingtri, is a prefecture-level city in the southeast of the Tibet Autonomous Region in China. The administrative seat of Nyingchi is Bayi District. Nyingchi is the location of Buchu Monastery. Economy Tourism The average elevation of Nyingchi is 3,040 meters (9,974 feet), which is the lowest compared with the other prefectures in Tibet. Yarlung Tsangpo River
The Yarlung Tsangpo, also called Yarlung Zangbo () is the upper stream of the Brahmaputra River located in the Tibet Autonomous Region, China. It is the longest river of Tibet and the fifth longest in China. The upper section is also called Dangque Zangbu meaning "Horse River." Originating at Angsi Glacier in western Tibet, southeast of Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, it later forms the South Tibet Valley and Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon before passing into the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India.
