Males constitute 51.12% of the population and females 48.88%. Kolasib has an average literacy rate of 93.50%, higher than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 94.57%, and female literacy is 92.38%. Population growth rate of Kolasib district was 27.28 percent during the decade. Economy Kolasib is agriculture-dominated economy with a few service sector jobs as it is a district capital. A large number of people cultivate beetle nut, oil palms, rice, wheat and fish which is both consumed and exported to other districts of Mizoram. Government Kolasib College
Government Kolasib College is an undergraduate college of Mizoram state in India located at Kolasib. It is a coeducation institute governed by the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, Education & Human Resources Department, Government of Mizoram. It is affiliated to the Mizoram University, a central university under University Grants Commission of India. Established in 1978, it is nationally recognised under 2(f) and 12-B of the U.G.C. Act, 1956. Kolasib College is a branch institute of the Mizoram College Teachers' Association. History Kolasib College is the first and only recognised college in Kolasib district. Kolasib District
Kolasib district is one of the eleven districts of Mizoram state in India. It is the smallest district in Mizoram with an area of 1,386 km2(535 sq mi). Mizoram
Mizoram () is a state in Northeast India, with Aizawl as its seat of government and capital city. The name of the state is derived from "Mizo people, Mizo", the endonym, self-described name of the native inhabitants, and "Ram", which in the Mizo language means "land." Thus "Mizo-ram" means "land of the Mizos". Mizo Language
The Mizo language, or ''Mizo ṭawng'', is a Kuki-Chin-Mizo language belonging to the Tibeto-Burman family of languages, spoken natively by the Mizo people in the Mizoram state of India and Chin State in Myanmar. The language is also known as Duhlian and Lushai, a colonial term, as the Duhlian people were the first among the Mizos to be encountered by the British in the course of their colonial expansion. The Mizo language is mainly based on Lusei dialect but it has also derived many words from its surrounding Mizo sub-tribes and sub-clan. Mizoram University
Mizoram University is a central university under the University Grants Commission, Government of India, and was established on 2 July 2001, by the Mizoram University Act (2000) of the Parliament of India. The President of India is the official Visitor, and the Governor of Mizoram acts as the Chief Rector as per Mizoram University (Amendment) Bill, 2007. History The university is the fruit of the Mizoram Peace Accord between Mizo National Front and Government of India on 30 June 1986. However, it was not created de novo. Aizawl
Aizawl (; Mizo: ) is the capital of the state of Mizoram in India. Aizawl was officially established on 25 February 1890. With a population of 293,416, it is the largest city in the state. It is also the centre of administration containing all the important government offices, state assembly house and civil secretariat. 2011 Census Of India
The 2011 Census of India or the 15th Indian Census was conducted in two phases, house listing and population enumeration. The House listing phase began on 1 April 2010 and involved the collection of information about all buildings. Information for National Population Register (NPR) was also collected in the first phase, which will be used to issue a 12-digit unique identification number to all registered Indian residents by Unique Identification Authority of India. The second population enumeration phase was conducted between 9 and 28 February 2011. Census has been conducted in India since 1872 and 2011 marks the first time biometric information was collected.
