Koinonia Community
Koinonia is a lay Christian community with social and humanitarian projects in Kenya, Zambia and the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Origin and Community The Koinonia Community was initially founded in 1988 by Father Renato Kizito Sesana, a Comboni Priest, and a group of young men from different professions and backgrounds. Members of the community live as one family, sharing dreams, successes and failures, with their inspiration being the life of the early biblical Christians as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. Today, the community has about thirty members, all of whom are financially independent. Koinonia Community members are committed to the growth of the local society within which Koinonia is based. In line with their calling, the members strive to counteract the economic and social evils bred by individualism and abject poverty. Nuba
The Nuba people are indigenous inhabitants of central Sudan. Nuba are various indigenous ethnic groups who inhabit the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan state in Sudan, encompassing multiple distinct people that speak different languages which belong to at least two unrelated language families. In 2011 when Southern part of Sudan become independent State as a country with Sovereignty, Nuba is currently living in the Southern part of Sudan. Estimates of the Nuba population vary widely; the Sudanese government estimated that they numbered 2.07 million in 2003. Sudan People's Liberation Army
The South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF), formerly the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), is the army of the South Sudan, Republic of South Sudan. The SPLA was founded as a guerrilla movement against the government of Sudan in 1983 and was a key participant of the Second Sudanese Civil War, led by John Garang. Yousif Kuwa
Yousif Kuwa Mekki (1945–2001; Arabic: یوسف كوة مكي) was a Sudanese revolutionary, rebel commander and politician. Early life Yousif Kuwa was born in 1945 at Jebel Miri, a locality in the Nuba Mountains of Central Sudan. A member of the Miri sub-tribe, he was named Kuwa after his father and Mekki after his grandfather. As with most rural Sudanese, his exact birthday is not recorded. Kuwa’s father was a soldier, and the family moved around the country, resulting in Kuwa growing up with little knowledge of his ethnic Nuba heritage. Early Political Activism Kuwa was raised a Muslim, and actually grew up believing he was an Arab.
