Koh Seh
Koh Seh or Koh Ses (Khmer: កោះសេះ, also romanized as ''Kaoh Ses'', its former French name: ''Ile a L’eau'') is a Cambodian island located in the Gulf of Thailand, inside Ream National Park, Sihanoukville province. It lies south of Koh Thmei and around south of the main-land of Sihanoukville's Ream commune. A wide sound separates it from Phu Quoc. "Koh Seh" means Horse Island. Less than 400 meters south-west of Koh Seh lies the tiny islet of Koh Ky. Koh Seh is uninhabited while most of its shores are fringed with mangroves. The island constitutes the south-easternmost part of Ream National Park. Koh Seh is sometimes mistaken with Koh Ach Seh, located in Kep Archipelago. Mangroves
A mangrove is a shrub or tree that grows in coastal saline or brackish water. The term is also used for tropical coastal vegetation consisting of such species. Mangroves are taxonomically diverse, as a result of convergent evolution in several plant families. They occur worldwide in the tropics and subtropics and even some temperate coastal areas, mainly between latitudes 30° N and 30° S, with the greatest mangrove area within 5° of the equator. Mangrove plant families first appeared during the Late Cretaceous to Paleocene epochs, and became widely distributed in part due to the movement of tectonic plates. The oldest known fossils of mangrove palm date to 75 million years ago. Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees, also called halophytes, and are adapted to live in harsh coastal conditions. Sihanoukville (city)
Sihanoukville (; km, ក្រុងព្រះសីហនុ, ), also known as Kampong Som ( km, កំពង់សោម, ), is a coastal city in Cambodia and the capital of Preah Sihanouk Province, at the tip of an elevated peninsula in the country's south-west on the Gulf of Thailand. The city is flanked by an almost uninterrupted string of beaches along its entire coastline and coastal marshlands bordering the Ream National Park in the east. The city has one navigable river, the mangrove lined Ou Trojak Jet running from Otres Pagoda to the sea at Otres. A number of thinly inhabited islands – under Sihanoukville's administration – are near the city, where in recent years moderate development has helped to attract a sizable portion of Asia's individual travelers, students, and backpackers. Koh Sdach
Koh Sdach island (Khmer: កោះស្តេច, King Island) is located in the Gulf of Thailand, around off the coast of Botum Sakor national park, in the Kiri Sakor district in Koh Kong province, Cambodia. It belongs to a small archipelago of 12 islands, all in relative proximity to each other and to the main land. A fishing community inhabits the island, with people of Khmer, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese descent. The village stretches along the east side of the island; to the west there is a small Khmer run bungalow guesthouse; at the southern end of the island lies a luxurious holiday resort. Koh Rong
Koh Rong ( km, កោះរ៉ុង, ) is the second largest island of Cambodia. The word ''Rong'' might refer to an old term for "cave" or "tunnel" ( km, រូង, links=no, ), although some islanders say ''Rong'' refers to a historical person's name. It can also refer to the Old Khmer word for shelter, adding up to ''Shelter Island''. Koh Rong Sanloem
Koh Rong Sanloem ( km, កោះរ៉ុងសន្លឹម, ) is an island off the coast of Sihanoukville, Cambodia, south of Koh Rong island. It is around long (north to south), wide (east to west) and wide at its narrowest point. Its distance from the local port of Sihanoukville is (beeline) and (beeline) from the Serendipity/Ochheuteal beach pier. The word "Sanloem" translates to: 1. drowsiness and to: 2. far out and hard to discern, in a wider sense. Inconsistencies on how to spell the island's name in its Latinized version date back to the 19th century. The first controversial spelling variants were issued by map makers during French rule. Koh Ach Seh
Koh Ach Seh ( Khmer: កោះអាចម៍សេះ) is a Cambodian island located off the country's southern coast in the Gulf of Thailand. "Koh Ach Seh" translates to 'Horseback Riding Island', however the name is popular evolving to just Koh Seh - Horse Island. The island is part of Kep Archipelago, and is being administered by Kep Province. During the Cambodian–Vietnamese War, the Khmer Rouge used Koh Seh as an outpost. Military bunkers and fruit trees planted by the Khmer Rouge as a food source are still visible on the island nowadays. Since 2013, the island has been home to Marine Conservation Cambodia, a non-profit, marine conservation organisation which has helped setting up the Kep Archipalego Marine Fisheries Management Area, and is now in charge of its management.
