André Koechlin
André Koechlin (1789–1875) was a French industrialist and the railroad equipment maker from the Koechlin family. Life André Koechlin was born in France to the Koechlin family, where he was the grandson of Samuel Koechlin, son-in-law of Daniel Dollfus-Mieg, head of the Dollfus-Mieg textile company and the first cousin once removed of structural engineer, Maurice Koechlin, who is an ancestor of actress Kalki Koechlin. Under his lead, between 1818 and 1826, the company became the leading textile company of Mulhouse. Turning in 1826 to the building of machinery for the textile industry, Koechlin became knowledgeable in the fabrication of steam machines and started making railroad equipment. The firm prospered and in 1839 already employed 1,800 people. By 1842, they were the largest French locomotive maker, having built 22 of them by then. Charles-Louis-Eugène Koechlin (; 27 November 186731 December 1950), commonly known as Charles Koechlin, was a French composer, teacher and musicologist. He was a political radical all his life and a passionate enthusiast for such diverse things as medieval music, ''The Jungle Book'' of Rudyard Kipling, Johann Sebastian Bach, film stars (especially Lilian Harvey and Ginger Rogers), traveling, stereoscopic photography and socialism. Jean Koechlin (28 August 1920 – 13 September 2009) was a French botanist and Christian hymn writer. Koechlin was born on 28 August 1920 in Basel, on the river Rhine, in northwestern Switzerland. He was a lifelong Plymouth Brethren, of the Exclusive Brethren that followed a division with William Kelly in 1881. Koechlin authored the book ''Flore et Végétation de Madagascar'' with Jean-Louis Guillaumet and Philippe Morat. It is the standard work on the vegetation of Madagascar. Koechlin died on 13 September 2009 in Francheville, Metropolis of Lyon, region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, eastern France. Kalki Koechlin (; born 10 January 1984) is a French actress and writer who works in Hindi films. Known for her unconventional body of work, she is the recipient of such accolades as a National Film Award, a Filmfare Award, and two Screen Awards. Maurice Koechlin (8 March 1856 – 14 January 1946) was a Franco-Swiss structural engineer from the Koechlin family. Life A member of the renowned Alsatian Koechlin family, he was born in Buhl, Haut-Rhin, the son of Jean Koechlin and his wife Anne Marie (Anaïs), née Beuck. He was the first cousin once removed of André Koechlin, and the great-grandfather of actress Kalki Koechlin. When France lost the Franco-Prussian war to Prussia in 1870/1871 the entire Koechlin family decided to become citizens of Switzerland and thus dropped French citizenship. After the defeat of the German Empire in 1918, however, the Koechlin family again applied for French citizenship. Rudolf Koechlin (11 November 1862 – 11 February 1939) was an Austrian mineralogist. Koechlin was born and died in Vienna. He studied mineralogy, crystallography, petrology and geology at the University of Vienna, obtaining his doctorate in 1887 with a thesis on manganite, polianite and pyrolusite. At Vienna, his instructors included Gustav Tschermak and Albrecht Schrauf.
