Kodie Bedford
Kodie Bedford is an Aboriginal Australian screenwriter, filmmaker and playwright from Western Australia. She is known for her play ''Cursed!'', and work on several television series, in particular the 2021 comedy series ''All My Friends are Racist''. Early life and education Bedford was born in Western Australia of the Djaru and Gija people on her father's side and Irish and English on her mother's. She grew in Geraldton in the Pilbara region, and has strong family links in the East Kimberley region. An only child, she grew up with lots of cousins around her. She wanted to be a screenwriter from when she was a teenager, being a great fan of '' Buffy the Vampire Slayer'', and credits storytelling with "saving her life". Sally Riley is an Australian filmmaker, writer, producer and media executive, Head of Scripted Production at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Early life and education Riley, a Wiradjuri woman, grew up in Narromine, in the Central West of New South Wales After her father died when she was 16, she completed Year 12 at Narromine High School. Riley took on a secretarial role at the local metalworks until she was 19, when she went on a three-year trip around Australia in a troop carrier with her then boyfriend, looking at Indigenous rock and cave paintings. After that she worked for a while as a liaison officer for Aboriginal land councils, before enrolling at the University of Wollongong (UOW) with the intention of becoming an actor. Aboriginal Australians are the various Indigenous peoples of the Australian mainland and many of its islands, such as Tasmania, Fraser Island, Hinchinbrook Island, the Tiwi Islands, and Groote Eylandt, but excluding the Torres Strait Islands. Message Stick
A message stick is a graphic communication device traditionally used by Aboriginal Australians. The objects were carried by messengers over long distances and were used for reinforcing a verbal message. Although styles vary, they are generally oblong lengths of wood with motifs engraved on all sides. They have traditionally been used across continental Australia, to convey messages between Aboriginal nations, clans and language groups and even within clans. In the 1880s, they became objects of anthropological study, but there has been little research on them published since then. Redfern is an inner-city suburb of Sydney located 3 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the City of Sydney.
