Cenderawasih Bay
Cenderawasih Bay ( id, Teluk Cenderawasih, "Bird of Paradise Bay"), also known as Sarera Bay ( id, Teluk Sarera) and formerly Geelvink Bay ( nl, Geelvinkbaai), is a large bay in northern Province of Papua, Central Papua and West Papua, New Guinea, Indonesia. Geography ''Cenderawasih Bay'' is a large bay to the northwest of the Indonesian province of Papua, north of the province of Central Papua, and east of the province of West Papua, between the Bird's Head Peninsula and the mouth of the Mamberamo River. The bay is more than 300 kilometers wide. The coastline from Manokwari, in the northwest of the bay, to Cape d'Urville at the mouth of the Mamberamo is more than 700 kilometers long. To the south, the Wandammen peninsula heads north into the bay. Important places along the coast are Manokwari, Ransiki, Wasior and Nabire. Cenderawasih University
Cenderawasih University ( id, Universitas Cenderawasih) is a university in Jayapura, Papua province, Indonesia. The university is the leading educational institution in the province. The university has faculties in economics, law, teacher training and education, medical, engineering, and social and political science. Until 2002 the university had a faculty of agricultural sciences at Manokwari, which was then separated to form the Universitas Negeri Papua. The university is divided into two areas: mainly the "Kampus lama" (old campus) which is in the Jayapura suburb of Abepura and the "Kampus baru" (new campus) which is in the hillside of Waena valley. In 2021 it appointed the first woman, Marlina Flassy, to a deanship in its history. Flassy, an anthropologist, was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and is also the first indigenous Papuan to hold the position. The Cenderawasih languages, approximately synonymous with West New Guinea languages, are a branch of Austronesian languages of Indonesia, found in the islands and shoreline of Cenderawasih Bay in the provinces of West Papua and Papua. Most of the languages are only known from short word lists, but Biak is fairly well attested. Paradisaea
The genus ''Paradisaea'' consists of six species of birds-of-paradise (family Paradisaeidae). The genus is found on the island of New Guinea as well as the nearby islands groups of the Aru Islands, D'Entrecasteaux Islands and Raja Ampat Islands. The species inhabit a range of forest types from sea level to mid-montane forests. Several species have highly restricted distributions, and all species have disjunct distributions. A 2009 study examining the mitochondrial DNA of the family found that the ''Paradisaea'' birds-of-paradise were in a clade with the genus '' Cicinnurus''. It showed that the blue bird-of-paradise was a sister taxon to all the other species in this genus. All are large, and sexually dimorphic. The plumage of the males includes characteristic grossly elongated flank plumes (which emerge from beneath the wings and strictly speaking are flank plumes pectoral plumes), and a pair of wire-like feathers emerging from the end of the tail. Cendrawasih (dance)
The ''cendrawasih'' dance ( ban, ᬘᭂᬦ᭄ᬤ᭄ᬭᬯᬲᬶᬄ) is a Balinese dance which is performed by two female dancers and illustrates the mating rituals of the bird of paradise (''burung cendrawasih'' in Indonesian). History A dance known as ''cendrawasih'' was designed by I Gde Manik and was first performed in the Sawan subdistrict of the Buleleng Regency in the 1920s; the area is the origin of numerous dances, including Trunajaya, Wirangjaya, and Palawakya. However, this version was significantly different from the dance that is now commonly performed. Present-day performances of the ''cendrawasih'' dance originate from choreography by Wijaya Bandem, who arranged for the first performance in 1988. The cendrawasih dance is inspired by the bird of paradise, which is known as ''burung cendrawasih'' in Indonesian and as ''manuk dewata'' ("the bird of the gods") in Balinese.
