Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur, commonly referred to as Víkingur or Víkingur Reykjavík (to distinguish them from Víkingur Ólafsvík) and internationally known as Vikingur F.C., is an Icelandic sports club based in the Fossvogur neighbourhood of Reykjavík. It is one of the oldest sports clubs in Iceland, founded on 21 April 1908. The football club has won six Championship titles, five First Division titles and four Cup titles. Víkingur operates other sports divisions including handball, tennis, table tennis, karate and skiing. All sports include both male and female teams. Crest and colours Club crest Þorbjörn Þórðarson, who was the chairman of the Vikingur in the period of 1943–44, designed the original Víkingur badge. Table Tennis
Table tennis, also known as ping-pong and whiff-whaff, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball, also known as the ping-pong ball, back and forth across a table using small solid rackets. It takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Except for the initial serve, the rules are generally as follows: Players must allow a ball played toward them to bounce once on their side of the table and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite side. A point is scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. Spinning the ball alters its trajectory and limits an opponent's options, giving the hitter a great advantage. Valur (club)
Knattspyrnufélagið Valur is an Icelandic multi-sport club based in Reykjavík, Iceland. The club is situated close to the city center, in the east side of town, on the former farmland of Hlíðarendi. The club was originally formed as part of the local YMCA to play association football, but later incorporated handball and basketball. Valur's handball section reached the EHF Champions League final in 1980. It has won the Icelandic league 22 times, more than any other Icelandic handball team. In 2019, Valur women's teams won the national championships in basketball, football, and handball, the first time that one club held all three major titles. The Valur women's basketball team also won all four major titles during the year and 47 of their 50 games. Emil Thoroddsen (16 June 1898 – 7 July 1944) was an Icelandic composer, pianist, playwright, critic and translator. He was the chief art critic of "Morgunblaðið" newspaper from 1926–1933 and worked for the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service since its establishment in 1930. Axel Andrésson
Axel Andrésson (November 22, 1895 – June 13, 1961) was a pioneer of Icelandic football and founder of football club Víkingur FC. He was the son of Andrés Andrésson tradesman and Kristin Pálsdóttir housewife. Axel was the mainspring for Víkingur Reykjavik in the club's early years, serving as its first chairman and coach from years 1908-1924 and 1930-1932. He was the first to become a licensed football referee at ÍSÍ - National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland. After being appointed as a coach at ÍSÍ in 1941, Axel held various sports workshops throughout Iceland, focusing upon football and handball intertwined with athletics and other sports.
