Klaudia Taev
Klaudia Taev (13 April 1906 in Saaremaa – 7 June 1985 in Pärnu) was an Estonian vocal pedagogue. Born into a teacher’s family on the Estonian island of Saaremaa, she studied as an opera singer at the Tallinn Conservatoire, under the tutorage of Aino Tamm, the first professional opera singer in Estonia. During World War II, she taught singing in Yaroslavl, and her students included the famous Estonian baritone, Georg Ots. Later, other well-known Estonian singers Urve Tauts, , Hans Miilberg, Viktor Gurjev, Asta Vihandi Asta Vihandi (born Asta Kronberg; 21 July 1929 – 5 March 1993) was an Estonian opera and operetta soprano, stage and film actress, and dancer whose career began in 1947 at the age of eighteen. Saaremaa
Saaremaa is the largest island in Estonia, measuring . The main island of Saare County, it is located in the Baltic Sea, south of Hiiumaa island and west of Muhu island, and belongs to the West Estonian Archipelago. Viktor Gurjev (29 August 1914 Riga – 11 October 1985 Tallinn) was an Estonian opera singer ( tenor) and pedagogue. In 1951 he graduated from Tallinn State Conservatory in singing speciality. 1937-1940 he was a member of Vassili Kirillov mandolin ensemble. 1942-1944 he belonged to Estonian SSR State Artistic Ensembles. 1944-1950 he sang with the Estonian National Male Choir Estonian National Male Choir ( et, Eesti Rahvusmeeskoor) is an Estonian male choir. PromFest is an international opera festival held biennially in Pärnu, Estonia, since 1996. PromFest stands for Pärnu International Opera Music Festival in Estonian. Klaudia Taev Competition
The Klaudia Taev Competition is a competition for young opera singers. It is the main event of the Pärnu Opera Music Festival PromFest. The Competition has been named after a local legendary singing teacher Klaudia Taev. The first Competition was held in the year 1996 and since 2001 it takes place biannually. The main prize of the competition is the proposal to sing the main opera role in opera production, which is selected at the request of the winner of the competition. Asta Vihandi
Asta Vihandi (born Asta Kronberg; 21 July 1929 – 5 March 1993) was an Estonian opera and operetta soprano, stage and film actress, and dancer whose career began in 1947 at the age of eighteen. Vihandi's longest engagement was at the Estonian National Opera, which lasted from 1950 until 1985. Later in life, she worked as an administrator for the National Philharmonic of the Estonian SSR.
