Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School, commonly called Kitchener Collegiate Institute or KCI, is a public education, public secondary school in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. It is a member of the Waterloo Region District School Board. The school dates from 1855, making it one of the oldest high schools in Kitchener and Waterloo, Ontario, Waterloo. Its sports teams are known as the Raiders. History The school opened on April 2, 1855, as the Berlin Senior Boys' Grammar School. It was initially located at the corner of King and Eby streets in the downtown area; tuition was five shillings per month. From 1857 to 1871, it occupied space in the Berlin Central School (now Suddaby Public School) on Frederick Street. Girls were admitted to the school in 1866. Since the 1960s, the issue of Native American and First Nations names and images being used by sports teams as mascots has been the subject of increasing public controversy in the United States and Canada. This has been a period of rising Indigenous civil rights movements, and Native Americans and their supporters object to the use of images and names in a manner and context they consider derogatory. Huron Heights Secondary School is a high school in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. As of the 2019–2020 school year, 1,600 students attend the school. It is located at 1825 Strasburg Road, on the intersection between Strasburg and Huron Road. The school opened on September 5, 2006. Its student body and its sports teams are known as the Huskies. History New students were introduced gradually. The first year; only grades 9 and 10 attended, and grades 11 and 12 were added each successive year of operation. A Developmental Education class was added in 2007. The fall of 2009 saw the inaugural grade 12 graduation ceremony for the initial grade 10 students who opened the school.
