Futsal
Futsal is a football-based game played on a hardcourt, hard court smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and Indoor soccer, indoor football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor soccer, it is played on a hard court surface marked by lines; walls or boards are not used. It is played with a smaller, harder, lower-bounce ball than football. The surface, ball and rules favour ball control and passing in small spaces. The game emphasizes control, improvisation, creativity and technique. Naming ''Futsal'' comes from the Portuguese ''futebol de salão'' and from the Spanish ''fútbol sala'' or ''fútbol de salón'' (all translatable as "indoor football"). 2011 Oceanian Futsal Championship
The 2011 Oceanian Futsal Championship (OFC) was the eighth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place from May 16 to May 20, 2011, and was hosted by Fiji, which had also hosted three previous editions. The number of participating nations rose to eight, up from seven in 2010, as Kiribati made their first ever appearance at the OFC Futsal Championship. The defending champions, the Solomon Islands, retained their title, defeating Tahiti by six goals to four in the final. The tournament's Golden Ball (Player of the tournament) award went to Elliot Ragomo of the Solomon Islands, who also won Golden Boot award for the highest number of goals scored in the tournament. The tournament also acted as a qualifying tournament for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand. The Solomon Islands won the tournament, and qualified for the World Cup. The New Zealand national futsal team, nicknamed the Futsal Whites, is the representative side for New Zealand in international futsal and is governed by New Zealand Football (NZF). Tuvalu National Futsal Team
The Tuvalu national futsal team is the representative team for Tuvalu in international futsal competitions. It is controlled by the Tuvalu Islands Football Association. They have never won a game. Tuvalu participates in Oceanian Futsal Championship. Oceanian Futsal Championship participation The 2008 Oceanian Futsal Championship was the first time Tuvalu attended the Oceanian Futsal Championship. Team's coach in 2008 was Sami Neemia. They lost 13-1 to New Zealand, 10-2 to New Caledonia, 13-3 to Fiji and 12-0 to Solomon Islands; and against French Polynesia the score was 1–3. In 2010, Toakai Puapua was the coach. Kiribati National Football Team
The Kiribati national football team is the national men's football team of Kiribati and is controlled by the Kiribati Islands Football Association. Kiribati is not a member of FIFA but is an associate member of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), and is therefore not eligible to enter the FIFA World Cup but may enter the OFC Nations Cup. It became a provisional member of the N.F.-Board on 10 December 2005. Kiribati is also a member of the ConIFA. Background Kiribati have only ever played 11 International matches up to April 2012 where they scored 7 goals and conceded 125. All of these matches were played away from home due to the lack of grass pitches in the archipelago. The Bairiki National Stadium has a sand pitch rather than grass. The Kiribati women's national football team is the women's national football team of Kiribati and is controlled by the Kiribati Islands Football Association. Kiribati is not a member of FIFA or of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), and is therefore not eligible to enter the FIFA Women's World Cup. Kiribati is a member of ConIFA, though there have been no women's tournaments to date for the side to participate in.
