Kinsale Community School
Kinsale Community School is based in the town of Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. It caters for around 1550 students aged 12–18 with around 160 staff and the principal is currently Mr. Fergal McCarthy. History Kinsale Community School officially began on 1 August 1996, following the amalgamation of two schools, "Our Lady of the Rosary Secondary School" and "Kinsale Vocational School" with 500 students. The school motto, "Omnes Communiter Discendo" adopted by the first Board of Management, states that we are "All Together in Learning". The school has become known for the successes in the Young Scientist, the Google Science Fair and the European young scientist. However the school is also a strong centre for the students interested in other extra curricular activities. Kinsale
Kinsale ( ; ) is a historic port and fishing town in County Cork, Ireland. Google Science Fair
The Google Science Fair was a worldwide (excluding Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Myanmar/Burma, Syria, Zimbabwe and any other U.S. sanctioned country) online science competition sponsored by Google, Lego, Virgin Galactic, National Geographic and ''Scientific American''. It was an annual event spanning the years 2011 through 2018. The first Google Science Fair was announced in January 2011; entries were due on April 7, 2011, and judging occurred in July 2011. The competition is open to 13- to 18-year-old students around the globe, who formulate a hypothesis, perform an experiment, and present their results. All students must have an internet connection and a free Google Account to participate, and the projects must be in English, German, Italian, Spanish, or French. Junior Certificate
Junior Cycle ( ga, An tSraith Shóisearach ) is the first stage of the education programme for post-primary education within the Republic of Ireland. It is overseen by the State Examinations Commission of the Department of Education, the State Examinations Commission and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). The new specifications and curriculum reforms eventually replaced the Junior Certificate (first introduced in 1992). Transition Year
Transition Year (TY) ( ga, Idirbhliain) is an optional one-year school programme that can be taken in the year after the Junior Certificate in Ireland. However, depending on school population and funding it may not be available, and in other schools it is compulsory. For the most part the year is designed around giving students life skills, incorporating a work experience program. There are also many trips available to the students, foreign and local, aimed at giving a more hands-on aspect to learning. Transition Year was introduced as a pilot project in September 1974, but it was not until September 1994 that the programme was introduced mainstream. Young Scientist And Technology Exhibition
The BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, commonly called the Young Scientist Exhibition, is an Irish annual school students' science competition that has been held in the Royal Dublin Society, Dublin, Ireland, every January since the competition was founded by Tom Burke and Tony Scott in 1965. This Competition The purpose of the competition is to encourage interest in science in secondary schools. For the 51st year of the competition in 2016, there were over 2,000 entries, from 396 schools which was the highest number ever, 550 of which were selected for the Exhibition at the RDS. Ciara Judge
Ciara Judge is an Irish scientist from Kinsale, County Cork and a public speaker. She was a finalist of the 42nd BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in 2013 at the age of fifteen with two others: Emer Hickey, Sophie Healy-Thow. She also won a First place Award in the European Union Contest for Young Scientists 2013. In 2014, she jointly with her 2 friends won the grand prize in Google Science Fair Ciara was also listed as one of the 25 most influential teens in ''Time'' for the year 2014 as a result of her innovation. Aisling Judge
Aisling Judge is an Irish scientist from Kinsale, County Cork. She was the winner of the 42nd Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in 2006 at the age of 13. She was the youngest winner in the history of the competition, until her record was taken two years later by thirteen-year-old Emer Jones from Tralee in County Kerry. Judge later finished in third place at the 18th European Union Contest for Young Scientists. SEARLS is a London-based Irish singer songwriter and musician. Described as a sophisticated electronic-pop artist, he is best known for releasing SCAR, the first track from his Sophomore EP in August 2018.
