Kingston City Council is the governing body for the City of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The council consists of the Mayor of Kingston and 12 city councillors elected by voters in geographic districts. Kingston, Ontario
Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is located on the north-eastern end of Lake Ontario, at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River (south end of the Rideau Canal). The city is midway between Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec. Kingston is also located nearby the Thousand Islands, a tourist region to the east, and the Prince Edward County tourist region to the west. Kingston is nicknamed the "Limestone City" because of the many heritage buildings constructed using local limestone. Growing European exploration in the 17th century, and the desire for the Europeans to establish a presence close to local Native occupants to control trade, led to the founding of a French trading post and military fort at a site known as "Cataraqui" (generally pronounced /kætə'ɹɑkweɪ/, "kah-tah-ROCK-way") in 1673. 2022 Kingston, Ontario Municipal Election
The 2022 Kingston, Ontario municipal election was held on October 24, 2022, to elect the Mayor of Kingston, Kingston City Council and the Limestone District School Board, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario and Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est. The election was held on the same day as elections in every other municipality in Ontario. Bryan Paterson
Bryan Paterson (born March 16, 1977) is a Canadian politician serving as the 96th and current Mayor of Kingston, Ontario. Career Paterson is an economics professor at the Royal Military College of Canada. Mayor Paterson became mayor of Kingston after winning the election on October 27, 2014 with 38.15% of the vote. The first meeting of City Council was on December 2, 2014. Paterson was re-elected in 2018, then again in 2022. Controversy In 2014, Paterson came under scrutiny when two videos of him discussing the "hyper-sexualization" of youth appeared on social media. In the second video, Paterson notes his desire to "raise up an army for God." In 2020, Paterson was accused of participating in conversion therapy while serving as a youth pastor at conservative Evangelical church Third Day Worship Centre. Mark Gerretsen
Mark Gerretsen (born June 5, 1975) is a Canadian politician who is the Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. He was first elected in the 2015 federal election, and re-elected in 2019 and 2021. He currently serves on the Standing Committee for Procedure and House Affairs and is the former Chair of the Ontario Liberal Caucus. Since 2021, Gerretsen has served as the Parliamentary secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. Prior to his election to the House of Commons, Gerretsen served as Mayor of Kingston from 2010 to 2014. Harvey Rosen
Harvey Rosen was the mayor of the city of Kingston, Ontario, Canada from 2003 to 2010. Early life and education Rosen was born in Kingston in 1949. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from York University in Toronto, and a Bachelor of Law degree from Queen's University in Kingston. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1977. Political career Rosen was elected to the council for the former Kingston Township in 1994, and in 1997 was elected to the Board of Control of the newly amalgamated City of Kingston.
