Kingsburgh, KwaZulu-Natal
Kingsburgh is a resort town in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, 32 km south-west of Durban. The town is considered to be part of the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast. History Originally known as Southern Umlazi, it became a township in October 1942 and reached borough status in August 1952. Probably named after Richard Philip (Dick) King (1811-1871) who rode along here from Durban to Grahamstown on horseback to secure assistance for beleaguered British troops in 1842. Geography Kingsburgh lies on the Sapphire Coast which extends from Athlone Park in the north-east to Clansthal in south-west. The town is bordered by Amanzimtoti in the north-east, the Indian Ocean to the east, Umgababa in the south-west and Illovo North to the west. Kingsburgh comprises the seaside holiday resorts of Doonside, Illovo Beach, Karridene, St Winifred's Beach, Warner Beach and Winklespruit which lie to the east of the N2. Doonside, KwaZulu-Natal
Doonside is a small beachside resort suburb in Kingsburgh, some 30 km south-west of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on the South Coast. At first the siding was called Middleton, after its builder, but to avoid confusion with Middleton in the Cape the name was changed in 1910 to Doonside, after a house called Lorna Doone which overlooked the siding. Geography Doonside along with its adjoining suburb of Doonheights in the interior form the northern part of Kingsburgh. Transport Doonside lies alongside the N2 freeway to the west (separates it from Doonheights) and has direct access to the N2 via the Seadoone Road interchange. Umgababa is a rural community area with a large marketplace for tourists in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It forms part of eThekwini. Etymology The river valley's name ''uMgababa'' is of Zulu origin meaning ''the place of jealousy'', its origin from a tribal feud. Geography The Umgababa River (originally "Umkababa", which means "my father's wife") enters the ocean at Umgababa. Its origin is at an elevation of 51 meters above sea level. Amanzimtoti
Amanzimtoti is a coastal town just south of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The town is well known for its warm climate and numerous beaches, and is a popular tourist destination, particularly with surfers. The annual sardine run attracts many to the Toti beaches. Etymology According to local legend, when the Zulu king Shaka led his army down the south coast on a raid against the Pondos in 1828, he rested on the banks of a river. When drinking the water, he exclaimed "Kanti amanzi amtoti" (isiZulu: "So the water is sweet"). The river came to be known as Amanzimtoti ("Sweet Waters"). The Zulu word for "sweet" is actually ''mnandi'', but, as Shaka's mother had the name Nandi, he invented the word ''mtoti'' to replace ''mnandi'' out of respect not to wear out her name. Athlone Park
Athlone Park is a small coastal suburb located between Durban and Amanzimtoti in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Geography Athlone Park lies on the mouth of the uMbokodweni River, approximately 19 km south of Durban and 7 km north of Amanzimtoti's CBD. Organisationally and administratively, it is included in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality as a Southern Suburb and also forms the southernmost part of the South Durban Basin, the industrial and suburban subregion south of Durban.
