Kings County (2016 population 68,941) is located in southern New Brunswick, Canada. Its historical shire town is Hampton. Both the Saint John and Kennebecasis rivers pass through the county. Approximately half of the Kings County population lives in suburbs of the nearby city of Saint John. List Of Counties Of New Brunswick
The Canadian province of New Brunswick has 15 counties. While they no longer serve as a local government territorial division as traditionally defined with shire towns or county towns, they continue to define a regional community. With the reorganization of local government legislation contained in the Robichaud government's reforms, collectively called the New Brunswick Equal Opportunity program, county municipalities ceased to function in 1966 and their councils were dissolved. Another form of regional local government did not replace the county. Instead, many small village municipalities were created, with the surrounding predominantly rural areas remaining unincorporated. Westfield is a civil parish in Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, for governance purposes it was divided between the town of Grand Bay-Westfield and the local service district of the parish of Westfield, both of which were members of the Fundy Regional Service Commission (FRSC). Westfield includes the taxing authorities of Westfield East and Westfield West, which are sometimes erroneously described as LSDs in their own right. Origin of name The parish may have been named for the town of Westfield in Massachusetts. Centreville is a village in Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada. Statistics Canada reported the population to be 557 in 2016, which is a 2.8% increase from the 2011 population of 542. Studholm is a civil parish in Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes it forms the local service district of the parish of Studholm, which further includes the service area of Lower Millstream. The local service district is a member of Regional Service Commission 8 (RSC8). Origin of name The parish was named in honour of Gilfred Studholme, a Loyalist military commander during the American Revolution, who later settled in the area and served on the first Executive Council of New Brunswick. History Studholm was erected in 1840 from Sussex Parish. It included Havelock Parish. In 1859 the eastern polling district was erected as Havelock Parish. Norton is a community in Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada. It was likely named for Norton, Massachusetts. On 1 January 2023, Norton was annexed or part of five local service districts to form the new village of Valley Waters. Revised census information has not been released. Geography It is situated on the Kennebecasis River 55 kilometres northeast of Saint John. The European and North American Railway began serving Norton in 1859. Norton is home to the oldest fossil forest in Canada. Present day ''Family Frolic Days'' used to be an annual village festival. Sussex Corner, New Brunswick
Sussex Corner is a neighbourhood in the town of Sussex in Kings County in south-central New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023. History Southeast of the town of Sussex, with which it shares a border, the village was settled by Loyalists during the American Revolution. It is part of what was originally called Pleasant Valley due to the weather and natural wealth it contains. Sussex Corner was home to the fastest half-mile horse racetrack in North America during the mid-19th century. The track was one of many thriving enterprises operated by businessman and sportsman Hugh McMonagle. Among his many contributions to the area, McMonagle introduced the first Holstein cattle to the region, leading to its strong reputation of being the Dairy Capital of the Maritimes. Sussex is a civil parish in Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes it is divided between the town of Sussex, the village of Sussex Corner, and the local service district of the parish of Sussex (which further includes the special service area of Apohaqui), all of which are members of Regional Service Commission 8 (RSC8). Origin of name Historian William Francis Ganong noted that Sussex, New Jersey was a Loyalist stronghold and that members of a New Jersey regiment settled in the area.
