King Edward VIII Falls
King Edward VIII Falls is an single plunge waterfall found on the Semang River in the Potaro-Siparuni highlands, southern Guyana, named for Edward VIII. Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David; 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972), later known as the Duke of Windsor, was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire and Emperor of India from 20 January 1936 until Abdication of Edward VIII, his abdication in December of the same year. New River (Guyana)
The New River (Dutch: Nieuwe Rivier) is a river of South America. It forms the Western border of the Tigri Area, a disputed territory that is claimed by both Guyana and Suriname. From a Surinamese perspective it is also called the Upper Corantyne River. The river rises in the Acarai Mountains and flows, together with the Coeroeni River, to the Courantyne River. The Oronoque River is a major tributary of the New River and within the Tigri Area. It was the location of a skirmish between Guyana Police Force and a Surinamese labor camp, 15 December 1967. Military conflict broke out in August 1969 when members of the Guyana Defence Force launch an operation to clear Suriname military personnel from the area. The operation was named "Operation Climax" and was executed with maximum precision. King George VI Falls
King George VI Falls, also known as Salto Oshi or Oshi Falls, is located on the Oshi River in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni region of Guyana. This waterfall is rarely visited. The exact height waterfall used to be unknown, but was measured in 2014 at Though it is not as tall as it has long been thought to be, it is notable for its combination of height and great volume of water, along with its being a sheer plunge. The overhanging cliff gives a visual illusion of a much bigger fall. The first westerner to see the falls was reportedly American entomologist and physician Paul A. Zahl in 1938. Height of this waterfall has often been reported to be 1,600 feet, and that figure has been published many times over several decades, but it is greatly exaggerated.
