King's Guard (Thailand)
The King's Guard ( th, ทหารรักษาพระองค์; ) is a ceremonial designation given by the Monarchy of Thailand to the various units within the Royal Thai Armed Forces. Practical and real security of the Royal family has since 1992 been provided by the Royal Security Command, which is an agency that is completely independent of the armed forces. History The first Royal Guards unit was established by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1859, when he was still the heir. Initially, the Royal Guards were servants with duties such as scaring crows, which led to commoners referring to them as the "Mahat Lek Lai Ka," roughly translated as "''Scarecrow Corps''". When he succeeded his father in 1868, King Chulalongkorn took his Royal Guard and formed a 24-strong Royal Bodyguard, referred to as the "Thahan Song Lo" (Two-Dozen soldiers"). 1st Infantry Regiment (Thailand)
The 1st Infantry Regiment, King's Close Bodyguard ( th, กรมทหารราบที่ 1 มหาดเล็กราชวัลลภรักษาพระองค์) (ร.1 ทม.รอ.) is a King's Guard regiment under the 1st Division, King's Guard of the Royal Thai Army. The regiment is divided into three battalions, all of them based in Bangkok. The regiment is the only unit of the Royal Thai Armed Forces with the designation ''Mahat Lek Rajawallop'' ( th, มหาดเล็กราชวัลลภ); meaning the king's close bodyguards, translated as the ''King's Own Bodyguards''. The unit was first established by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1859, whilst he was still a young prince. The Royal Thai Army or RTA ( th, กองทัพบกไทย; ) is the army of Thailand and the oldest and largest branch of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. History Origin The Royal Thai Army is responsible for protecting the kingdom's sovereignty. The army was formed in 1874, partly as a response to new security threats following the 1855 Bowring Treaty with Britain, which opened the country for international trade. History 4th Tank Battalion, 1st Division, King's Guard was originally founded in 1930 from after a transformation of 2nd Tank Battalion in Saraburi. The first commander is M.L. Tor Panomwan. Queen Sirikit ( th, สิริกิติ์; ; ); born ''Mom Rajawongse'' Sirikit Kitiyakara ( th, สิริกิติ์ กิติยากร; ; 12 August 1932) is the queen mother of Thailand. She was List of Thai royal consorts, Queen of Thailand as the wife of Bhumibol Adulyadej (or Rama (King of Thailand), King Rama IX) and is the mother of the current King Vajiralongkorn (or King Rama X).
