Killeedy GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Killeedy, County Limerick, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. History Located in Raheenagh in the parish of Killeedy, County Limerick, Killeedy GAA Club was founded in 1932. The club has spent most of its existence operating in the junior grade, winning three Limerick JBHC titles. The club's greatest success came in 1980 when South Liberties GAA, South Liberties were beaten by 2–07 to 1–07 to claim the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship, Limerick SHC for the only time in their history. The club has organised its own Leinster Junior B Club Hurling Championship, Leinster, Munster Junior B Club Hurling Championship, Munster and All-Ireland Junior B Club Hurling Championship, All-Ireland JBHC competitions since 2005. 1980 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship
The 1980 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship was the 86th staging of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Limerick County Board. Patrickswell were the defending champions. Killeedy won the championship after a 2–07 to 1–07 defeat of South Liberties in the final. It remains their only championship triumph. 1980 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1980 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 94th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The draw for the 1980 fixtures took place in September 1979. The championship began on 25 May 1980 and ended on 7 September 1980. Kilkenny were the defending champions but were defeated by Offaly in the Leinster final. Laois re-entered the Leinster Championship, having won the All-Ireland Senior B Hurling Championship the previous year. On 7 September 1980, Galway won the championship following a 2–15 to 3–9 defeat of Limerick in the All-Ireland final. Willie Fitzmaurice
Willie Fitzmaurice (born 4 December 1946) was a hurler from Killeedy, south of Limerick, who played with the Limerick teams in the 1970s and 1980s In 1998, he became a county team selector along with former teammates Éamonn Cregan and David Punch and advocated the retention of the back-door system. He was the parish priest in Kilmallock in 2008; as such he celebrated the mass of his deceased niece, Elizabeth Gubbins, who died in the controversial Vernelli hit-and-run case in Rome. Paudie Fitzmaurice
Paudie Fitzmaurice (born 16 November 1949) is a hurler from Killeedy in County Limerick, Ireland, who featured in Limerick hurling teams of the 1970s. Fitzmaurice was part of the Limerick county hurling team which won the All-Ireland in 1973,) as well as in the 1974, 1980 and 1981 teams. He was captain when Limerick won the 1981 Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final. He is a two-time National League winner, and finished as top scorer when captaining Maynooth College to victory in the Fitzgibbon Cup in 1974. His achievements as a player were recognised in 1984 when Fitzmaurice received an All-Star award. Fitzmaurice continued to play competitive hurling for his native Killeedy until 1996. Fitzmaurice was named manager of the Sligo hurling team in January 2003. but resigned after harsh criticism in May of that year. Limerick Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Limerick Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association for the third tier hurling teams in the county of Limerick in Ireland. Killeedy
Killeedy () is a civil parish located south of Newcastle West in Co. Limerick in Ireland. This parish consists of two villages, Ashford and Raheenagh. The elevation of the parish varies from 1,184 ft. OS at Mauricetown and 1,082 ft. at Dromdeeveen to 200 ft. OS at Ballintubber. The parish is overlooked by the Mullaghareirk Mountains. The patron saint of Killeedy is Saint Ita. Killeedy used to be known as Cluain Chreadhail but in later ages it had taken the name of Cill íde, the Church of Saint Ita, from a nunnery which was founded there in the sixth century.
