Kilcock GAA
Kilcock is a Gaelic Athletic Association, Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Kilcock, County Kildare, Republic of Ireland, Ireland, winner of five Kildare Senior Football Championship: (1914, 1917, 1955, 1957, 1958) and Kildare club of the year in 1982. Located on the border with County Meath, Kilcock has a long and proud tradition of Gaelic Games. Traditionally Kilcock draws it players from the village itself as well as the surrounding rural areas of Laragh, Ballycaghan, Clonfert and Belgard. Kilcock is the home of Davy Dalton Jr., winner of the 1997 GAA All Stars Awards Past Winners (Football), All Stars Award. Kilcock
Kilcock () is a town and townland in the north of County Kildare, Ireland, on the border with County Meath. Its population of 6,093 makes it the ninth largest town in Kildare and 76th largest in Ireland. The town is located 35 km (22 mi) west of Dublin, and is on the Royal Canal. Local industries include a large Musgrave Group distribution centre, which supplies SuperValu and Centra stores across much of the country. History Kilcock takes its name from the 6th century Saint Coca who founded a church beside the Rye River, a major tributary of the River Liffey. The saint is traditionally said to have been a sister of St. Kevin of Glendalough; by occupation, she was an embroiderer of church vestments, including those for St. Colmcille. Cian O'Neill
Dr Cian O'Neill is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who has since been a Gaelic games coach (physical trainer), selector and manager with various county teams. He has been attached to the Galway county football team, under Pádraic Joyce, since 2021. O'Neill trained the Tipperary county hurling team that won the 2010 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. After involvement with the Mayo and Kerry county football teams, he served as manager of the Kildare county football team for several years. Career O'Neill is originally from Newbridge, County Kildare. He played football for Kildare GAA club Moorefield but his career was cut short by serious back injury. O'Neill has coached both the Tipperary county hurling team and the Kerry county football team. Kildare Junior Football Championship
The Kildare Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Kildare GAA clubs. The winning club plays in the Kildare Intermediate Football Championship in the following year. As of the 2022 season there is an overall Junior Championship winner as well as a Junior A winner (competed for between the bottom four teams in the Junior Championship Round Robin Group 2). There have been various iterations of the competition, which started in 1906 as the secondary competition to the Kildare Senior Football Championship. In 1928 a Kildare Intermediate Football Championship was started for middle tier teams with the Junior Championship ranking below that. In 1947 the Junior Championship was split into A and B competitions with the winners competing for the overall Junior title. The Kildare Intermediate Football Championship, or Kildare I.F.C., is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kildare GAA clubs since 1928. The winners currently receive the Hugh Campion Cup in honour of the Suncroft official who served as County Board Chairman from 1972 to 1981. Moorefield GAA
Moorefield is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of Newbridge County Kildare, Ireland, winner of two Leinster Club Senior Football Championships, ten Senior County Football Championships and three Senior County Hurling Championships. History Folklore records that, in 1882, two brothers, John O'Kelly of Moorefield Road and James O'Kelly of Ballymany were instrumental in forming the first football team in Newbridge. Calling themselves the JJ O'Kellys they played matches against Mountrice, Eyrefield, Monasterevin, Kildare town and Milltown. In 1884, when the GAA was formed, the club changed its name from JJ O'Kelly's to Moorefield, the name of a townland in southern Newbridge. Cappagh GAA
Cappagh is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Republic of Ireland. It was the Kildare club of the year in 1998. History Cappagh was founded by Paddy Butler and John Murray in the aftermath of the Easter Rising. Their grounds in Ballyvauneen, southwest of Cappagh, were purchased in 1971 and their dressing room complex opened in 1995. Gaelic Football Kerryman Tadhg Downey played at corner forward on the 1939 Kildare championship team. At Downey's behest, Cappagh adopted the red jerseys of the Dingle club, worn by Kerry in the 1938 All Ireland final. Round towers GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club based in Kildare in County Kildare, Ireland winner of 10 Kildare county senior football championships , six as Round Towers, three as Kildare and one as St Patrick's. Kilcullen GAA
Kilcullen is an Intermediate Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Kilcullen, County Kildare, Ireland, which played a leading role in developing the games in the county. History Kilcullen town sports predate the GAA. The club was founded in 1889, and at first wore green and gold. They changed to black and white to honour the New Zealand national rugby union team ("All Blacks"), who played in Dublin in 1905. Their nickname, "The Rags", comes from a friendly game against Isles of the Sea where the Dubliners insulted the Kilcullen team's shabby kit.
