Khoshaba (also written Khawshaba, ar, خوشابا; ku, خۆشابا, translit=Xoşaba) is a village located in the Tel Kaif District of the Ninawa Governorate in Iraq. The village is located ca. southeast of Alqosh and ca. northeast of Telskuf in the Nineveh Plains. It belongs to the disputed territories of Northern Iraq. Alqosh ( syr, ܐܲܠܩܘܿܫ, Judeo-Aramaic: אלקוש, ar, ألقوش, alternatively spelled Alkosh or Alqush) is a town in the Nineveh Plains of northern Iraq, a sub-district of the Tel Kaif District and is situated 45 km north of the city of Mosul. The locals of Alqosh are Assyrians who mostly adhere to the Chaldean Catholic Church. Etymology Several theories have been put forward for the origin of the town's name. The name Alqosh (Syriac: ܐܲܠܩܘܿܫ) may possibly trace back to the compound Assyrian-Akkadian name ''Eil-Kushtu'', where ''Eil'' means “God”, and ''Kushtu'' means “righteousness” or “power”. Tesqopa
Tesqopa ( syr, ܬܠܐ ܙܩܝܦܐ, ar, تسقوبا) or Tel Skuf ( syr, ܬܠ ܣܩܘܦ, ar, تللسقف), also ''Tel Eskof'' or ''Tall Asqaf'' is a town in northern Iraq located approximately 19 miles (about 28 kilometres) north of Mosul. The town is populated by Assyrians and they are members of the Chaldean Catholic Church. The town was captured by ISIS briefly in August 2014 but was recaptured by Kurdish Peshmerga in August 2016. The disputed territories of Northern Iraq ( ar, المناطق المتنازع عليها في العراق, ku, ناوچە جێناکۆکەکانی عێراق) are regions defined by article 140 of the Constitution of Iraq as being Arabised during Baath Party rule in Iraq.
