Kevin Roberts (Australian Footballer)
Kevin Neilson "Noofa" Roberts (born 11 April 1939) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. Roberts was recruited from Cheltenham, where he played as a full-back winning a Federal League best and fairest. A left footer, he became a half forward flanker at St Kilda and kicked three goals in a narrow semi final loss to Melbourne at the MCG in 1963. He often played on the half forward flank next Darrel Baldock. He came off the bench as a reserve in the 1965 VFL Grand Final loss to Essendon, strangely enough wearing number 24 in this match instead of his usual number 23. After kicking 17 goals in his first eight games in the 1966 VFL season, Roberts broke his collarbone against Melbourne and as a result missed the premiership win. Cheltenham Football Club
The Cheltenham Football Club is an Australian rules football club from Melbourne, that was founded in 1891 and currently plays in Division 1 of the Southern Football Netball League. History As early as 1891, the "Cheltenham Football Club" regularly played football matches, often travelling long distances from their southern Melbourne base to play country teams such as Ballarat. The Cheltenham home games were played on a paddock on the corner of Park and Charman roads in Cheltenham. In 1909, the club moved to its current home at the Cheltenham Recreational Reserve on Weatherall Road. Also in 1909, Cheltenham entered in the newly formed Federal Association and became the inaugural Federal Association premiers. The club continued its affiliation with this league for many decades, even fielding an open age team during the war years. Oakleigh Football Club
Oakleigh Football Club, nicknamed the Devils, was an Australian rules football club from Oakleigh which played in the VFA from 1929 until 1994. Oakleigh wore purple guernseys with a gold monogram thus giving them their original nickname the Purple and Golds. History The club was formed in 1891 and after having success in the Melbourne Districts Association (premierships in 1907, 1924, & 1928), they were one of two teams admitted into the VFA in 1929, the other being Sandringham. With former Essendon star player and coach, and future Fitzroy and Carlton coach Frank Maher in charge they won a premiership in just their second season with a 9-point win over Northcote in a very spiteful game, 9.6 (60) to 7.9 (51). Alex Jesaulenko
Oleksandr "Alex" Jesaulenko ( ; uk, Олександр Васильович Єсауленко, Oleksandr Vasiliovych Yesaulenko, ; born 2 August 1945) is a former Australian rules footballer and who played for the Carlton Football Club and the St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL). He also served as a coach at both clubs. Jesaulenko is a Legend of the Australian Football Hall of Fame, and as a player was known for his versatility, uncanny balance and spectacular marking. He immortalised his reputation in the game by taking the most iconic mark in football history in the 1970 VFL Grand Final. Rod Owen
Roderick Owen (born 31 January 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda, Melbourne and the Brisbane Bears in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Owen, who had only recently turned 16 when he made his league debut for St Kilda in 1983 against North Melbourne at Arden St Oval, suffered from various injuries early in his career and missed the entire 1985 VFL season. Owen had to wait until his 17th game, in 1986, to experience a win, with St Kilda having lost the previous 16 games he had played in. A Mentone Grammar recruit, Owen kicked a career high 39 goals in 1987, the second most by a St Kilda player that year behind Tony Lockett. Tony Lockett
Anthony Howard Lockett (born 9 March 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club and Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Nicknamed "Plugger", he is considered one of the greatest full forwards and players in the game's history. Inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and upgraded to Legend status in 2015, he is the most prolific goal kicker in VFL/AFL history, breaking Gordon Coventry's record in 1999 and eventually finishing with 1,360 goals in 281 games. 1966 VFL Season
The 1966 VFL season was the 70th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 23 April until 24 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the St Kilda Football Club, after it defeated by one point in the VFL Grand Final. It was St Kilda's first premiership, making it the last of the eight foundation clubs to win a premiership. The 1965 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Essendon Football Club and St Kilda Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 25 September 1965.
