Kerteminde (nickname: ''Min Amandas by'', i.e. ''My Amanda's town''), is a town in central Denmark, located in Kerteminde Municipality on the island of Funen. Johannes Larsen
Johannes Larsen (27 December 1867 – 20 December 1961) was a Danish nature painter. Biography Larsen was born in Kerteminde on Funen, Denmark. He was the son of Jeppe Andreas L. and Vilhelmine Christine Bless. His father was a merchant. Larsen studied art at the Free School in Copenhagen under Kristian Zahrtmann (1843–1917) in the 1880s. There he met other painters from Funen, notably Fritz Syberg (1862–1939) and Peter Marius Hansen (1868-1928), both from the southern port of Faaborg, and the Funish Painters group (''Fynboerne'') was born. They went on to create an art colony that influenced many Danish and Swedish artists and brought them success. In 1898, he was married to the painter Alhed Maria Warberg (1872–1927). Between 1901-02, the artist couple built their home on Møllebakken in Kerteminde. Funen Painters
The Funen Painters or ''Fynboerne'' were a loose group of Denmark, Danish artists who formed an art colony on the island of Funen at the very beginning of the 20th century. They were strongly influenced by Kristian Zahrtmann who taught at the Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler, Artists Studio School in Copenhagen from 1885 to 1908. The Region of Southern Denmark ( da, Region Syddanmark, ; german: Region Süddänemark, ; frr, Regiuun Syddanmark) is an administrative Regions of Denmark, region of Denmark established on Monday 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, which abolished the traditional counties of Denmark, counties ("amter") and set up five larger regions. Franz Syberg
Franz Adolf Syberg (5 July 1904 - 11 December 1955) was a Danish composer. Life Syberg was born in Kerteminde, Funen, to the painters Anna and Fritz Syberg. He moved to Leipzig in 1922 where he studied musical composition and music theory at the Leipzig Conservatory with Sigfrid Karg-Elert and Werner Hübschmann. He left for Copenhagen in 1928, where he studied organ with Peter Thomsen. He was appointed organist at Kerteminde in 1932, where he remained for the rest of his life. His 1931 Quintet for flute, clarinet and string trio was chosen in 1938 to be performed at the International Society for Contemporary Music in London and the Nordic Music Days in Copenhagen. The years following this saw the composition of his most mature works, ending in 1942, when he stopped composing. His work was largely forgotten until 1990, when seven of his compositions were performed at the Musikhøst festival in Odense. Much of his work has now been published and performed. Annette Strøyberg
Annette Susanne Strøyberg (7 December 1936 – 12 December 2005) was a Danish actress. Her films included ''Les Liaisons dangereuses'' (1959), which was directed by her first husband, Roger Vadim. Biography Annette Strøyberg was born on either 12 December 1934 or 7 December 1936 in the village of Rynkeby, Kerteminde Municipality, Denmark, and is related to Danish actress Camilla Soeberg as the cousin of Camilla's mother. Prior to 1958, Strøyberg appeared as a cover girl, most notably in an advertisement for Tuborg beer. Arent Nicolai Dragsted
Arent Nicolai Dragsted (9 June 182115 August 1898) was a Denmark, Danish goldsmith based in Copenhagen who was granted the predicate List of Purveyors to the Court of Denmark, Purveyor to the Court of Denmark shortly before his death. His company, A. Dragsted, still exists today. Dragsted created the golden horn that was presented to Bernhard Severin Ingemann by Danish women on the occasion of his 75 years birthday. The horn is now on display in the Danish Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. He has also created the golden wreath for Frederick VII of Denmark, Frederick VIIøs sarcofague in Roskilde Cathedral. Birthe Bovin
Berthe (Birthe) Marie Marensine Bovin (31 January 1906 – 12 August 1980) was a self-taught Danish painter who joined the artists' colony in northwestern Zealand known as the Odsherred Painters. Biography The daughter of a fisherman, Bovin was born in Kerteminde on the island of Funen. In 1933, she married the poet Sigfred Pedersen but the marriage was dissolved in 1943. Alfred Simonsen
Alfred Simonsen (16 December 1906 – 12 April 1935) was a Danish painter who in the early 1930s became associated with the artists' colony in northwestern Zealand known as the Odsherred Painters. When he died at the early age of 27, he had only completed about 30 paintings and a few sketches. Biography The son of a gardener, Simonsen was born in Kølstrup, a little village near Kerteminde on the Danish island of Funen. He was given painting lessons by an Odense theatre painter from about 1920. From 1926 to 1932, he studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Ejnar Nielsen and Aksel Jørgensen. Christine Swane
Christine Swane née Christine Larsen (29 May 1876 in Kerteminde – 16 August 1960 in Farum) was a Denmark, Danish painter who first associated with the Funen Painters before developing her own increasingly Cubism, Cubist style. Biography Christine Swane was the sister of Johannes Larsen, one of the key members of the Funen Painters (''Fynboerne''), with whom she associated while young. She adopted their Naturalistic approach and strong use of colour as evidenced by her early flower paintings. After studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Danish Academy (1898–1901) under Viggo Johansen, she was instructed by Jens Ferdinand Willumsen, Fritz Syberg and Harald Giersing. Anna Syberg
Anna Louise Birgitte Syberg (7 January 1870 – 4 July 1914) was a Danish painter. Together with her husband Fritz Syberg, she was one of the Funen Painters (''Fynboerne'') who lived and worked on the island of Funen. She is remembered for her lively watercolours of flower arrangements. Biography Anna Syberg was born in Faaborg, Denmark. Her father was artist Peter Syrak Hansen (1833-1904). She was the sister of artist Peter Hansen (1868–1928). Anna Syberg attended the technical school in Faaborg after which she studied painting under Ludvig Brandstrup and Karl Jensen in Copenhagen.
