Kerry Senior Hurling Championship
The Kerry Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Garvey's SuperValu Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1889 for the top hurling teams in the county of Kerry in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer months, with the county final currently being played in Austin Stack Park in August. Initially played a knock-out competition, the championship currently uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. The 2020 championship reverted to a straight knock-out format due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Kerry County Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Kenmare GAA
Kenmare GAA (Irish: ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Kenmare in County Kerry. The club competes as a joint divisional side with other clubs from the Kenmare area like Templenoe in the underage county championship and as an individual club in senior competitions including the Kerry county senior football championship. History The Kenmare Athletic Club was founded on 25 September 1888 when they held a meeting with the newly formed GAA. The club was originally named after Daniel O'Connell, a famous Kerry politician. Tralee Parnells
Tralee Parnells are a hurling club from the town of Tralee in County Kerry, Ireland. Original club The original Parnells won 2 Kerry Senior Hurling Championships in 1918 and 1919. All Ireland winning football captain and one of Kerry's greatest players John Joe Sheehy played with the club. The club appeared in their first final in 1911 when they lost to fellow Tralee side Tralee Mitchels 5–03 to 1-02. They won their first title in 1918 overcoming Kilgarvan 1–10 to 4-00, they were to face the same opposition in 1919 but received a walkover. They made the semi-final in 1920 and were to play Kenmare but the championship was abandoned. The championship was abandoned for much of the 1920s and by the time it resumed Tralee had three new clubs in the shape of Rock Street, Strand Road and Boherbee. Tralee Mitchels were a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland before the formation of the three Tralee clubs namely John Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahilly's. Ballyheigue GAA is a hurling and gaelic football club in north County Kerry, Ireland. The club competes at all levels of hurling at county and North Kerry and also plays some underage football as well as competing in the county junior football league and the county novice football shield. History The club was founded in 1892. The field, which is named after John Joe O'Sullivan, was purchased in the 1950s. Club rooms were later built in 1974. A new ball alley, dressing rooms and a meeting room were opened in 2006. Willie Leen is president of the club and a trustee of the club grounds since the grounds were first acquired; He put his farm up as collateral in the Bank in order to secure a loan to buy the field.
