Kerry Independent Alliance
The Kerry Independent Alliance () is a minor political party in the Republic of Ireland. It was established as the South Kerry Independent Alliance by former Labour Party members in the 1990s based in the Kerry South constituency. Since 1999, it has only contested local elections in the Killarney area in County Kerry, and its only candidate has been Michael Gleeson, who was a Killarney town councillor from 1991 to 2014, and has been Kerry County Councillor since 1999. Gleeson was de-selected by the Labour Party as a candidate to contest the 1992 general election in favour of Breeda Moynihan-Cronin, which led to his leaving the party and later forming the SKIA with his supporters. The SKIA discussed a merger with the Labour Party in 2006, with Gleeson as the proposed Labour Party candidate at the 2007 general election, after Moynihan-Cronin announced her intention to retire from Dáil Éireann. Michael Gleeson (politician)
Michael Gleeson (born 1946 in Killarney, County Kerry) is an Irish politician and former sportsperson. Sporting career He played Gaelic football with his local club Spa and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1969 until 1972. He was also a member of the Kerry junior team and won an All-Ireland Junior Football Championship medal in 1967. He won 3 Kerry Senior Football Championships, a Munster Senior Club Football Championship and an All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship with East Kerry. With Spa he won 7 East Kerry Senior Football Championship titles and a County Intermediate Football Championship. During his college days in Dublin he won a Dublin Under 21 Football Championship with Erins Hope in 1966. He later played with UCD and won a Sigerson Cup with them. The 2007 Irish general election took place on Thursday, 24 May after the dissolution of the 29th Dáil by the President on 30 April, at the request of the Taoiseach. The general election took place in 43 parliamentary constituencies throughout Ireland for 166 seats in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of parliament, with a revision of constituencies since the last election under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2005. Radio Kerry
Radio Kerry is a full-service, licensed radio station that operates from the franchise area of County Kerry in Southwest Ireland. Radio Kerry was established in 1989 and began broadcasting on 14 July 1990. The station headquarters are in Tralee, the principal town of County Kerry, with a remote studio in Killarney. The original studios were based at Park View, Tralee, New Street, Killarney and The Barracks, Cahersiveen. In April 1995, Radio Kerry HQ moved to a custom-designed building in Tralee town centre with digital broadcasting, production and editing facilities incorporating a television studio. Shortly afterwards, the station moved its Killarney studio to Rock View, off High Street, Killarney and the Cahersiveen studio was re-located to the O'Connell Centre in the town. 2016 Irish General Election
The 2016 Irish general election took place on Friday 26 February to elect 158 Teachtaí Dála (TDs) across 40 constituencies to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's parliament. The 31st Dáil was dissolved by President Michael D. Higgins on 3 February, at the request of Taoiseach Enda Kenny. Breeda Moynihan-Cronin
Breeda Moynihan-Cronin (''née'' Moynihan; born 31 March 1953) is a former Irish Labour Party politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kerry South constituency from 1992 to 2007. She was born in Cork in 1953, but is a native of Killarney, County Kerry. She was educated at St. Brigid's Secondary School, Killarney; Dominican College Sion Hill, Dublin; and Skerry's College, Cork. Her father, Michael Moynihan, was a TD for Kerry South from 1981 to 1987 and from 1989 to 1992. She worked as a bank official before becoming involved in politics in 1991 when she was elected to Kerry County Council.
