James Powell Kernochan (October 22, 1831 – March 6, 1897) was an American businessman and clubman who was prominent in New York society during the Gilded Age. Early life Kernochan was born on October 22, 1831 in New York City in a house at 8th Street and Second Avenue. He was the son of Joseph Kernochan (1789–1864) and Margaret Eliza ( née Seymour) Kernochan (1804–1845). Kernohan is a residential neighbourhood located in the Clareview area of north east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is "named for an early pioneer farmer who operated a grocery store here in the 1880s and 90s. The neighbourhood is bounded on the west by Victoria Trail and on the north by 137 Avenue. To the east is the North Saskatchewan River valley. To the south the neighbourhood overlooks Kennedale Ravine. While residential development began during the 1960s, according to the 2001 federal census, just over half (53.8%) of all residences were built during the 1970s. Margaret Kernochan Leech (November 7, 1893 – February 24, 1974), also known as Margaret Pulitzer, was an American historian and fiction writer. She won the Pulitzer Prize for History both in 1942 (''Reveille in Washington'', Harper) (first woman to win for history) and in 1960 (''In the Days of McKinley'', Harper). Stephen Scott Kernahan (born 1 September 1963) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) and for the Glenelg Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Brian Wilson Kernighan (; born 1942) is a Canadian computer scientist. He worked at Bell Labs and contributed to the development of Unix alongside Unix creators Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie. Kernighan's name became widely known through co-authorship of the first book on the C programming language (''The C Programming Language'') with Dennis Ritchie. James Watson Kernohan
James Watson Kernohan, M.D. (1896–1981) was an Irish-American pathologist born October 1, 1896 in County Antrim, Ireland. He studied medicine at Queen's University Belfast, and in 1922 he emigrated to the United States and subsequently worked as a pathologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Kernohan retired from active medical practice in 1962 and died May 5, 1981. Kernohan is remembered for his work in neuropathology, particularly research of spinal cord tumors, brain abscesses and metastatic brain lesions. He is credited with developing a widely used classification system for brain tumors. The eponymous ''Kernohan's notch'' is named after him, which is a groove in the cerebral peduncle caused by displacement of the brainstem against the incisura of the tentorium cerebelli in some cases of transtentorial herniation.
