Kerala Pathrika
''Kerala Pathrika'' was the first and earliest Malayalam language newspaper based in Calicut, India. Its first issue was published on 19 October 1884. Chengalathu Kunhirama Menon was the founder and chief editor of the paper. History The first issue of ''Kerala Patrika'' was published on October 19, 1884. Kunhirama Menon started the newspaper for the supporting the national movement. Financial help to start a newspaper was provided by two important persons of Malabar, Appu Nedungadi and Kannambra Valiya Unni Nair. Kunhirama Menon also attended the 1890 editors’ conference in England with S. Kasturi Ranga Iyengar of ''The Hindu''. The editor placed emphasis on promoting nationalistic feelings and opposing the autocratic functioning of the government. Menon was highly impressed with the working of the Calcutta-based ''Amrita Bazar Patrika''. Malayalam (; , ) is a Dravidian language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry (Mahé district) by the Malayali people. Chengalathu Kunhirama Menon
Chengalath Kunhirama Menon (1857–1935) was the founder/editor of ''Kerala Pathrika''—first and earliest Malayalam newspaper published from Kozhikode, Calicut Kerala during 1885. Menon is often referred to as Chengalathu Valiya Kunhirama Menon; the appellation Valia (big or senior) is used to distinguish him from his nephew and well-known story writer Chengalathu Cheriya Kunhirama Menon popularly known with reversed initials M. R. K. C. Kunhirama Menon was one of the first five graduates of erstwhile Malabar, completing his bachelor's degree at the Maharajah's College Trivandrum, in Kerala. Appu Nedungadi (11 October 1863 6 November 1933) is the author of ''Kundalatha'', which was published in 1887, making it as the first novel published in Malayalam. He was the founder/editor of literary publications ''Kerala Pathrika'', ''Kerala Sanchari'' and ''Vidya Vinodini''. In 1899, he established Nedungadi Bank, the oldest private sector commercial bank in Kozhikode, Kerala. Amrita Bazar Patrika
''Amrita Bazar Patrika'' was one of the oldest daily newspapers in India. Originally published in Bengali script, it evolved into an English format published from Kolkata and other locations such as Cuttack, Ranchi and Allahabad. The paper discontinued its publication in 1991 after 123 years of publication. Its sister newspaper was the Bengali-language daily newspaper ''Jugantar'', which remained in circulation from 1937 till 1991. It debuted on 20 February 1868. It was started by Sisir Ghosh and Moti Lal Ghosh, sons of Hari Naryan Ghosh, a rich merchant from Magura, in District Jessore, in Bengal Province of British Empire in India. Sanjayan
Mannikoth Ramunni Nair (1903–1943), better known by his pseudonym, Sanjayan, was a Malayalam writer, journalist and one of the pioneers of satirical writing in Malayalam literature. Along with E. V. Krishna Pillai, another of the notable Malayalam satirists, Sanjayan is known to have developed the genre of light essays in the language. Besides satires, he also wrote literary criticisms and translated Othello into Malayalam language.
