James Jerome Kenneally
J. J. Kenneally (born James Jerome Kenneally; 1870 – 20 February 1949) was an Australian journalist and trade unionist. An early populariser of Australian bushranger Ned Kelly and his gang via his book ''The Inner History of the Kelly Gang and Their Pursuers'' (1929), he was also one of the original members of the country's Labor Party and later formed his own party. Raised in the northeastern part of Australia's Victoria known as "Kelly country", he taught school, started Tasmania's Timber Worker's Union and was active in the union movement. He ran for the House of Representatives seat for Mernda, Victoria in the 1906 and 1910 elections. He self-published ''Inner History'' in 1929, and the work was plagiarised by the press of the day. Twenty years later, it inspired Sidney Nolan's important ''Ned Kelly'' series of paintings and, by 1980, over 30 years after Kenneally's death, it had gone through nine editions. Christine Kenneally (born in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian-American journalist who writes on science, language and culture. Trained as a linguist, she has written for ''The New York Times'', the ''New Yorker'', ''Slate'', ''New Scientist'', and Australia's ''Monthly'', among other publications. She is a great-granddaughter of JJ Kenneally, an early popularizer of Australian bushranger Ned Kelly. Sergeant John Patrick Kenneally (né Leslie Jackson) VC (15 March 1921 – 27 September 2000) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Early life John Patrick Kenneally was born as Leslie Jackson at 104 Alexandra Road, Balsall Heath, Birmingham. His mother was Gertrude Nowell Robinson, the 18-year-old daughter of a Blackpool pharmacist who had been sent to live with relatives to conceal her son's illegitimate birth. She changed her surname to Jackson, and had her son christened Leslie. Christy Kenneally (born 1948) is an Irish author, speaker, poet, TV presenter and scriptwriter. He is well known for his books and lectures on the subject of bereavement and dealing with loss. Biography Kenneally was born in 1948 in Cork, Ireland. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the National University of Ireland and a Bachelor of Divinity from the Pontifical University of Maynooth. After graduating, he started a management training company and some of his clients have included Lotus, Motorola, Analog Devices, the Mars Corporation, and IBM. Brendan Kenneally
Brendan Kenneally (born 1 April 1955) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Waterford constituency, he was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the 1989 general election. In February 1992, he was appointed as Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Transport and Communications by the Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, serving until January 1993. He was re-elected at subsequent elections until his defeat at the 2002 general election. He then became a member of the 22nd Seanad, nominated by the Taoiseach. He regained his Dáil seat at the 2007 general election. Kenneally's father Billy Kenneally also served as a TD for Waterford from 1965 to 1982, and his grandfather William Kenneally served as a TD for Waterford from 1952 to 1961. Billy Kenneally
William Kenneally (12 October 1925 − 26 August 2009) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He first stood for election at the 1961 general election but was unsuccessful. He was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for the Waterford constituency at the 1965 general election. He was re-elected at each subsequent election until he lost his seat at the February 1982 general election. He was elected to the 16th Seanad in 1982 on the Administrative Panel. He did not contest the 1983 Seanad election. Kenneally was twice Mayor of Waterford city in the 1970s and 1980s. His father William Kenneally also served as a TD for Waterford from 1952 to 1961, and his son Brendan Kenneally is a former TD for Waterford. He died in Waterford Regional Hospital on 26 August 2009. Siassie Kenneally
Siassie Kenneally (29 May 1969 – 2018) was an Inuit, Inuk artist based in Cape Dorset (Kinngait), Northwest Territories (now Nunavut). Kenneally was known for her pencil-crayon drawings depicting traditional Inuit lifestyles. Her work is included in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada and the Dennos Museum Center, Dennos Museum. In 2017, her work had a solo exhibition at Feheley Fine Arts titled "All the Things That I Have Seen". Biography Kenneally comes from a family of artists, her mother Mayureak Ashoona was a celebrated print maker and her father, Qaqaq Ashoona, noted carver. John Kenneally (hurler)
John Kenneally was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Redmonds and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team for one season in 1892. Playing career Club Kenneally played his club hurling with the famous Redmonds club and enjoyed some success. He won a county senior championship title in 1892. Inter-county Kenneally first came to prominence on the inter-county scene with Cork as part of the Redmond's selection in 1892. That year he lined out in his first provincial decider with All-Ireland champions Kerry providing the opposition. An exciting game developed, however, at full-time Cork were the champions by 5-3 to 2-5. It was Kenneally's first, and only, Munster title. Cork's next game was an All-Ireland final meeting with Dublin. The game was a controversial one as referee Dan Fraher changed his mind after initially awarding a goal to Cork. Dean Kenneally (born 8 March 1967 in Victoria) is an Australian physiotherapist who was the primary team physio for Chelsea FC until 2007. Previously he has worked for Tottenham Hotspur, as well as the Australian and British national athletics teams.
