Kene (Naga Wrestling)
''Kene'' ( ) or Naga wrestling is a folk wrestling style and traditional sport of the Nagas. It is closely related to ''Ssireum'', the traditional national sport of Korea. The objective of the sport is to bring any part of the opponent's body above the knee to the ground. ''Kene'' is played by the Tenyi–mi ethnic group of the Nagas— Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliangrong of Nagaland & Mao, Maram and Poumai of Manipur. Each wrestler wears a coloured cloth tied around the waist. Holding the opponent's waist-binder with both hands, the wrestler must attempt to topple the other onto the ground. Poumai Naga People
The Poumai people, also known as the Poumai Nagas, are one of the major Naga tribes in northeastern state of Manipur in India. The Poumai predominantly live in the Senapati District of Manipur, though there are villages in Nagaland state and one in Ukhrul district . The Poumai mainly live in 100 villages that have been broadly divided into three blocks: Paomata, Lepaona and Chilivai. The Poumai speak their own language, Poula, and are generally Christians. Legal status In 2003, the Government of India proclaimed the Poumai Naga to be a separate tribe. Paomata, Lepaona and Chilivai, taken together are recognised as Poumai Naga. Prior to that, the government considered them to be part of the Mao tribe, with whom they share culture and history. Alysh
Alysh () is a Turkic term for Central Asian folk wrestling or "belt wrestling" regulated by United World Wrestling. Alysh is an upright wrestling style. Competitors wear trousers, jackets and belts, and must hold on to their opponents' belts at all times. Their objective is to throw their opponents onto the mat. Throws are given scores between 1 and 6, based on what part of the opponent lands on the mat. The first player to win 6 points wins the match. Since 2008, Alysh is recognized by FILA, the world governing body for wrestling (the United World Wrestling (UWW) predecessor,) as "wrestling alysh". The development of the involvement of sports clubs with illegal drug traffic in South Kyrgyzstan is largely associated with IFWA and its former president Bayaman Erkinbayev. The Hornbill Festival is an annual festival celebrated from 1 to 10 of December in the Northeastern Indian state of Nagaland. The festival represents all ethnic groups of Nagaland for which it is also called the ''Festival of Festivals''. Background The state of Nagaland is home to several ethnic groups, which have their own distinct festivals. More than 60% of the population of Nagaland depends on agriculture and therefore most of their festivals revolve around agriculture.
