Kempehallen
Kempehallen was an indoor sporting arena located in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, built in 1964. The capacity of the arena was 5,114 during the last years. It was however opened already in 1939 as an outdoor rink, and in 1958 artificial ice was installed. It was later rebuilt into an indoor arena, inaugurated on 4 October 1964 with the ice hockey game Modo AIK–Brynäs IF, 0–2. It originally had a capacity of 10,000 (standing only). About 2,000 seats were installed in 1969, and the capacity was lowered to 6,700. In 1995 the arena got an overhaul, with a few luxury boxes added among other improvements. It was the home arena of the Modo Hockey ice hockey team, replaced in 2006 by the new downtown Swedbank Arena. Kempehallen then remained in use by the club's younger teams and other clubs in the area. 2004 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships
The 3rd International Paralympic Committee, IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships was held between April 13, 2004 and April 24, 2004 at Kempehallen in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. Örnsköldsvik was also the host of the first 1976 Winter Paralympics, Paralympic Winter Games in 1976. Participating countries: 104 athletes from eight nations Canada, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Norway, Sweden, United States. The USA, Norway and Sweden were automatically qualified for their performance at the 2002 Winter Paralympics, Salt Lake 2002 Paralympic Winter Games, while the other five teams were selected through regional championships. Modo Hockey
Modo Hockey (or MoDo with uppercase letters) is a professional ice hockey club in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. The team plays in Sweden's second-tier league HockeyAllsvenskan. The club was founded in 1987 and has won one SHL championships; in 2007. The team's home arena since 2006 is the Hägglunds Arena (previously known as ''Fjällräven Center'' and ''Swedbank Arena''). Before then, the team played at Kempehallen, beginning in 1964. 1976 Winter Paralympics
The 1976 Winter Paralympic Games ( sv, Paralympiska vinterspelen 1976) were the first Winter Paralympics. They were held in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, from 21 to 28 February 1976. The disabilities included in this Paralympics were blindness and amputees. Sixteen countries took part with 196 athletes. There were competitions in Alpine and Nordic skiing for amputee and visually impaired athletes, and a demonstration event in ice sledge racing. They were originally known as the 1st Winter Olympic Games for the Disabled. Europe is a Swedish rock band formed in Upplands Väsby in 1979, by frontman Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson, and drummer Tony Reno.
