Kelvin Kerkow
Kelvin Kerkow (born 22 April 1969) is an Australian lawn bowls and indoor bowls player and author. Early life Kerkow was born in 1969 in Kingaroy, Queensland. At the age of seven, he contracted Guillain–Barré syndrome which led to him being unable to walk for several years. His parents, Ivan and Joan introduced him to bowls when he was unable to play contact sports due to his limited mobility. Bowls career Outdoors he won two bronze medals in the singles and triples in the 1996 World Outdoor Bowls Championship and a silver medal in the fours at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. He also secured the 2006 Commonwealth Games singles gold medal in Melbourne. He is also a three times title winner at the Asia Pacific Bowls Championships in 1995, 2001 and 2003. Indoors Kelvin has won three World Indoor Championships Pairs gold medals. Kingaroy
Kingaroy is a rural town and locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. The town is situated on the junction of the D'Aguilar and the Bunya Highways, north-west of the state capital Brisbane and south west of Gympie. As at June 2018, Kingaroy had a population of 10,398. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. It is known as the "Peanut Capital of Australia" because Australia's largest peanut processing plant is located in the town and it's peanut silo dominates the skyline. Kingaroy is also known as the hometown of former Premier of Queensland, Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. The Australian Sports Medal is an award given to recognise achievements in Australian sport to commemorate Australian participation in major sporting events. Original recipients of the award included competitors, coaches, sports scientists, office holders, and people who maintained sporting facilities and services. Steve Glasson
Stephen John Glasson OAM (born 10 April 1969) is an Australian bowls player. He was number one in the world in 2004 and was ranked first in Australia between 1997 and 2005. He is currently the Australian national bowls coach. Early life Glasson was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1969. His father, Bob Glasson was a former Queensland bowls representative. Glasson took up bowls as a young child in the mid-1970s. While working as a bank teller as a teenager, his bank was held up. He decided to change jobs, becoming an apprentice greenkeeper at a bowls club. Playing career World Championships In 2004 Glasson became world singles champion when he won a gold medal at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Scotland, becoming the first Australian to be world number one in men's singles. World Cup Singles The World Cup Singles was an event inaugurated in 2005 by the organisation known as World Bowls and was held until 2019. It was contested annually between bowlers from national bowls organisations. The competition was seen as the Southern Hemisphere equivalent of the World Indoor Bowls Championships held annually in the United Kingdom and organised by the World Bowls Tour. The event was first held from 3-10 April 2005, at the Hong Kong Football Club indoor bowling green and Ap Lei Chau Sports Centre in Hong Kong but eventually took place every year at the Warilla Bowls Club in New South Wales, Australia. Although players from both hemispheres were able to compete, travelling restricted the entries and the majority of the leading indoor players from the Northern hemisphere did not take part. Mervyn John King (born 4 January 1966, in King's Lynn) is an international lawn and indoor bowler from Fakenham. Bowls career King has represented England at three Commonwealth Games, the 2002, 2006 and the 2010 Commonwealth Games where he won a silver medal, with Stuart Airey, in the men's pairs competition. He has also won two bronze medals at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Ayr in the triples and fours events. Ian David Schuback (born 4 September 1952) is a former Australian lawn and indoor bowler. Biography Schuback bowled for the Coolangatta club in Queensland and was also a former professional tennis coach. He started bowling in 1980 after watching the Melbourne World Outdoor Championships. Schuback claimed a Men's Singles silver medal at the 1986 Commonwealth Games and then won the 1988 World Indoor Bowls Championship and the 1990 Commonwealth Games Pairs titles. He won the 1992 World Indoor Bowls Championships Singles, the 1994 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs and the 1996 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs. A gold medal is a medal awarded for highest achievement in a non-military field. Its name derives from the use of at least a fraction of gold in form of plating or alloying in its manufacture.
