Kellett Island
Kellett Island is a former island of Victoria Harbour, off East Point, Hong Kong, East Point in Hong Kong. It is now connected to Hong Kong Island at Causeway Bay following Land reclamation in Hong Kong, land reclamation in 1969. It is located in Wan Chai District. The Kellett Autogiro Corporation was an American aircraft manufacturer from 1929 based in Philadelphia, named after founder W. Wallace Kellett. History The Kellett Aircraft was formed by W. Wallace Kellett and C. Townsend Ludington and their brothers, Rodney Kellett and Nicholas Ludington. In 1931, Kellett Autogiro licensed, from the Autogiro Company of America, Juan de la Cierva's and Harold Pitcairn's patents for rotary-wing aircraft. The first three designed were all typical Cierva designs and the more advanced KD-1 was similar to the contemporary Cierva C.30. Kellett KD-1
The Kellett KD-1 was a 1930s American autogyro built by the Kellett Autogiro Company. It had the distinction of being the first practical rotary-wing aircraft used by the United States Army and inaugurated the first scheduled air-mail service using a rotary-wing aircraft. Development Using the experience gained in building Cierva autogyros under licence the Kellett Autogiro Company developed the KD-1 which was similar to the contemporary Cierva C.30. It had two open cockpits, a fixed tailwheel landing gear and was powered by a 225 hp (168 kW) Jacobs L-4 radial engine. The D in the KD-1 designation stood for Direct control, meaning that the rotor was responsible for all control of the machine, so ailerons, wings and elevators were not necessary. The Kellett XR-10 was a military transport helicopter developed in the United States in the 1940s that only flew in prototype form. It was designed in response to a USAAF Technical Instruction issued for the development of a helicopter to transport passengers, cargo, or wounded personnel within an enclosed fuselage. The Kellett Baronetcy, of Lota in Cork, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 6 August 1801 for Sir Richard Kellett, with remainder to the heirs male of his father Richard Kellett. On the death of the second Baronet in 1886 the title passed to the third Baronet, a descendant of Henry Kellett, younger brother of the first Baronet. However, he did not assume the title until 1906. Kellett Bay (), or Kai Lung Wan () is a bay on southwestern Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong, to the southeast of Waterfall Bay. The pronunciation of ''Wan'' () in ''Kai Lung Wan'' in the Cantonese language is like the one in (as in Cheung Sha Wan, To Kwa Wan and Causeway Bay (''Tung Lo Wan'')). Kellett Bay was named after the naval officer Sir Henry Kellett. Kellett Island and Mount Kellett were also named after him.
