Keller is a surname with several origins. The Irish version, which is the most ancient in origin, comes from the Gaelic surname Ó Ceilechair. In modern German Keller means cellar or basement, but historically it designates a cellarer or winemaker. A Latinized form of "Keller" is " Cellarius". Keller is an Anglicized version of the Old Irish surname Ó Céilechair (meaning descendant of Céilechar). Céilechair was descended from Cennétig mac Lorcáin King of the Dál gCais in modern-day Clare. Cennétig mac Lorcáin was the ancestor and progenitor of the Keller family, and also of the Kennedys and O'Briens of Munster. Bernhard Keller
Bernhard Keller (born 1962) is a Swiss mathematician, specializing in algebra. He is a professor at the University of Paris. Keller received in 1990 his PhD from the University of Zurich under Pierre Gabriel with the thesis ''On Derived Categories''. His research is in homological algebra and the representation theory of quivers and finite-dimensional algebras. He has applied triangulated Calabi–Yau categories to the (additive) categorification of cluster algebras. In 2013, he received an honorary degree from the University of Antwerp. In 2014 he received the Sophie Germain Prize. He was an Invited Speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid in 2006, with a talk ''On differential graded categories.'' Émile Keller (Belfort, 1828 – 1909) was a French writer and politician. Biography In 1857 he was elected as a deputy for the Haut-Rhin district to the French Assembly. He soon made himself prominent as a leader of the Roman Catholic Party. He lost his seat in 1863, but was reelected in 1869. Elisabetta Keller, also known as Elisabeth Keller, (6 July 1891 – 19 February 1969) was a Swiss artist born in Italy and a founder of the Italian Soroptimist Club. Keller worked in many media, but preferred pastels. Though she created landscapes and still life, she was noted for her portraits, which were often of the upper-class and bourgeoisie of Milan. Among her subjects were her close friend, the poet Delio Tessa, and Pope Pius XI, a long-time family friend. Clayton Keller (born July 29, 1998) is an American professional ice hockey forward and alternate captain for the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Coyotes selected him seventh overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Born in Chesterfield, Missouri, and raised in Swansea, Illinois, Keller was part of a group of skilled young hockey players around his age growing up in the St. Louis area. Charles Ernest Keller (September 12, 1916 – May 23, 1990) was an American professional baseball player. He played as a left fielder in Major League Baseball from 1939 through 1952 for the New York Yankees (1939–43, 1945–49, 1952) and Detroit Tigers (1950–51). Carsten Keller (born 8 September 1939) is a former field hockey player from West-Germany, who won a gold medal for his native country at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.
