Keitt (mango)
The 'Keitt' mango is a late-season mango cultivar which originated in south Florida. History Keitt was reportedly a seedling of the Mulgoba cultivar that was planted on the property of Mrs. J.N. Keitt in Homestead, Florida in 1939. However, recent genetic analysis suggests Keitt was actually a seedling of Brooks, which would help explain its late-season ripening and large fruit size. The cultivar was selected and named in 1945, after which it quickly gained commercial nursery acceptance for its flavor, productivity and lack of fiber. The fruit lacked color, however, and was much larger than most varieties, limiting it from becoming a widespread commercial staple. It did gain popularity among Florida home growers and remains one of the more widely planted trees in the state today. Ataulfo (mango)
The 'Ataúlfo' mango is a mango cultivar from Mexico. Ataulfo mangos are golden yellow and generally weigh between , with a somewhat sigmoid (oblong) shape and a gold-yellow skin. The flesh is not fibrous, and the pit is thin. They were named for grower Ataulfo Morales Gordillo. Since August 27, 2003, the Ataulfo mango is one of the 18 Mexican Designations of Origin. Origin The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial) granted the designation of origin of this fruit to the government of Chiapas. Along with the Manilita mango, it is a descendant of the Philippine mango cultivar introduced from the Philippines to Mexico before 1779 through the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade. ''Mangifera'' is a genus of flowering plants in the cashew family, Anacardiaceae. It contains approximately 69 species, with the best-known being the Common Mango (''Mangifera indica''). Brooks (mango)
The 'Brooks' mango (also known as 'Brooks Late') is a late-season commercial mango cultivar that originated in south Florida. It is a parent of several varieties from the state. History The original tree reportedly grew from a seed of the ' Totapuri' mango, which is also called 'Sandersha' (from Maharashtra, India) that was planted on the property of a Mr. Brooks in Miami, Florida in 1910. The Sandersha parentage of Brooks was later supported by a 2005 pedigree analysis. The tree first fruited in 1916 and propagation began in 1924. After Haden, it was the second Florida cultivar to be named. Brooks went on to gain some commercial acceptance and is still grown on some commercial scale in Florida and in Africa. Mulgoba (mango)
''Malgova or Malgoa is an important mango cultivar mainly grown in Tamilnadu and Karnataka and also in other parts of South India. It is a large round fruit (typically 300-500 g), it has a small hard seed inside and is very juicy and fragrant. It is generally considered to be one of the best mangoes. Its production area is centred on the districts of Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, as well as neighbouring parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. A variety that was transplanted in Florida is called Mulgoba (very likely due to a mislabeling). A strain is also grown in Malaysia. Bird/Mary Heinlein Fruit & Spice Park, is a 37-acre park located in the heart of Redland, Florida, and is the only botanical garden of its kind in the United States.
