1984 Manipur Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly were held from December 1984 to May 1985, to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Manipur, India. The Indian National Congress won the most seats as well as the popular vote, and Rishang Keishing was reappointed as the Chief Minister of Manipur. After the passing of the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971, Manipur was converted from a Union Territory to a State and the size of its Legislative Assembly was increased from 30 to 60 members. Manipur State Congress Party
Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) is a former political party in the Indian state of Manipur. The party was founded in 1997 by Wahengbam Nipamacha as a split from the Indian National Congress (INC). In 2014 the MCSP remerged with the INC. History The party was formed after a group of ministers and legislators, led by former Speaker Nipamacha, broke away from the ruling Indian National Congress and floated the Party which subsequently formed the next government. "Cultivator Cutting Crop" is the election symbol of the party. Nipamacha then became the chief minister of a coalition government led by the party. In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, then-MSCP candidate Th. Chaoba Singh got elected and became Union Minister of State for Food Processing during Atal Behari Vajpayee's tenure. Legislative Assembly elections were held in Manipur from 28 February to 5 March 2022 in two phases, to elect 60 members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The results declared on 10 March 2022. The newly constituted assembly was named 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly. Background The tenure of Manipur Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on 19 March 2022. The previous assembly elections were held in March 2017. After the election, coalition of Bharatiya Janata Party, National People's Party, Naga People's Front and Lok Janshakti Party formed the state government, with N. Biren Singh becoming Chief Minister. The 2012 Manipur Legislative Assembly election was held in Indian state of Manipur in Feb-March 2012, to elect 60 members to the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Results The Voter turnout was 79.19%.
