The Caucasus () or Caucasia (), is a region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, mainly comprising Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia (country), Georgia, and parts of Southern Russia. The Caucasus Mountains, including the Greater Caucasus range, have historically been considered as a natural barrier between Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Mount Elbrus in Russia, Europe's highest mountain, is situated in the Western Caucasus. Port Kavkaz Railway Station
Port Kavkaz (russian: link=no, Порт Кавказ) is a railway station in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. History The station was opened in 1944 to serve the new Kerch railway bridge. The complex also included construction of tracks to the bridge: from Port Kavkaz to Sennaya station and from Port Krym to Kerch. In February 1945 the bridge was destroyed by ice. In 1954 the Kerch ferry crossing had opened. In 1989 the railway ferries were stopped for passenger trains, however, the station continued to work, serving freight trains and a passenger diesel train Kavkaz – Krasnodar. In 1995 the railway ferries were stopped and the station became disused. In 2004 new rail ferries arrived to Port Kavkaz and resumed the movement of freight trains through the Kerch Strait ferry line. In 2007, the station became primary when sending oil cars from Russia to Armenia, replacing Ukrainian Illichivsk. In 2008 new railway lines were built to the station. The Kavkaz Center (KC; russian: Кавказ-центр, Kavkaz-centr, lit=Caucasus Center) is a privately run website/ portal which aims to be "a Chechen internet agency which is independent, international and Islamic". The stated mission of the site is to report events related to Chechnya and also to "provide international news agencies with news-letters, background information and assistance in making independent journalistic work in North Caucasus". Since its inception it has broadcast views supporting independence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and later the Caucasian Emirate and the mujahideen worldwide. Uralo-Kavkaz ( uk, Урало-Кавказ, russian: Урало-Кавказ) is a rural settlement in Sorokyne urban hromada, Dovzhansk Raion (district) of Luhansk Oblast in Ukraine. Population: , . The settlement is located on the banks of the Duvanna River, in the basin of the Donets River, close to the border with Russia. History Uralo-Kavkaz (literally Urals and Caucasus) and was founded in 1914, when the Urals and Caucasus Joint-stock Company started operating a coal mine here. The settlement was developed to serve this one and the subsequently opened mines. At the time, it belonged to Slavyanoserbsk Uyezd of Yekaterinoslav Governorate. In 1920, Donetsk Governorate with the center in Luhansk (later in Bakhmut) was established, and the uyezd was transferred to Donetsk Governorate.
