Kaur Alttoa
Kaur Alttoa (born 14 September 1947, Tartu) is an Estonian art historian and cultural historian. Biography Alttoa graduated from Hugo Treffner Gymnasium in 1966. His class teacher was Liidia Tanimäe, a legendary physics teacher during the days of the Estonian SSR. After graduating from secondary school, he attended the University of Tartu in the same year and graduated in 1972 with an art history degree, protecting his diploma paper "Vastseliina Fortress". In October 1980, Alttoa was a signatory of the Letter of 40 Intellectuals, a public letter in which forty prominent Estonian intellectuals defended the Estonian language and protested the Russification policies of the Kremlin in Estonia. The signatories also expressed their unease against Republic-level government in harshly dealing with youth protests in Tallinn that were sparked a week earlier due to the banning of a public performance of the punk rock band Propeller. Tartu
Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia after the Northern European country's political and financial capital, Tallinn. Tartu has a population of 91,407 (as of 2021). Juhan Kreem (born 26 June 1971) is an Estonian historian, writer, and archivist. His principal topic is Livonian Middle Ages, especially topics related to the Livonian Order. Juhan Kreem was born in Tallinn. His father is Antarctic researcher and journalist Enn Kreem and his mother is actress Anni Kreem. His younger brother is musician Jaagup Kreem, who is a member of the rock band Terminaator. His maternal grandparents were writer Paul Viiding and translator Linda Viiding. Heiki Valk
Heiki Valk (born 7 May 1959, in Tartu) is an Estonian archaeologist. He is a senior research fellow and head of archaeological laboratory at Tartu University specialising in Estonia in the Middle Ages. From 23 January 2008, he has been Chairman of the Estonian Learned Society and was its secretary from 1993 to 1996. He graduated from the University of Tartu of History in 1983. Krista Kodres
Krista Kodres (until 1979 Krista Saar; born on 15 October 1957 in Tallinn) is an Estonian art historian and former backstroke and freestyle swimmer. From 1971 until 1974, she become 7-times Estonian champion in different swimming disciplines and was a member of Estonian swimming team. She has set 13 national records. Kodres graduated from Tartu State University in 1980 with a degree in art history. She is one of the founder of Estonian Architecture Museum and from 1991 until 1993, was its science director.
