Kaul Festival
Kaul (or Pesta Kaul) is a Melanau annual "cleansing" when traditionally, uninvited spirits and other bad influences were escorted out of the village by a flotilla of boats, and ceremonial offerings of food, cigarettes and betel nut were set on the Seraheng (decorated pole) at the river mouth. The word "kaul" means "coming together" in Melanau language. The Beginning of Kaul Originating from the animistic beliefs traditionally held by the Melanau people, Kaul is held annually in Bulan Pengejin (The month of the Spirits) of the Melanau Calendar, which is usually in the end of April, as a purification and thanks giving to appease the spirits of the sea called Ipok. It coincides with the end of the Northeast monsoon, once a time of hardship when the sea was too rough to fish and the villages often suffered from flooding. Melanau People
Melanau or ''A-Likou'' (meaning River people in Mukah dialect) is an ethnic group indigenous to Sarawak, Malaysia. They are among the earliest settlers of Sarawak. They speak in the Melanau language, which is a part of the North Bornean branch of Malayo-Polynesian languages. Origins In the 19th century, the Melanaus settled in scattered communities along the main tributaries of the Rajang River in Central Sarawak. they like to be known as Melanau or A-Likou. For most Melanau, the word ' dayak' is inappropriate for them as it was a word used by the westerners for the inhabitant of Borneo because Melanau people already have their own identity and culture as A-Llikou (Melanau). Sarawak

Bamboo Scaffolding
Scaffolding, also called scaffold or staging, is a temporary structure used to support a work crew and materials to aid in the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings, bridges and all other man-made structures. Teluwaih Jinih
Ratu Teluwaih Jinih is a local beauty pageant based in Mukah, Sarawak. Began in 2008, it is the centerpiece of the Mukah Kaul Festival, which usually lasts a week. The reigning Ratu Teluwaih Jinih is Eunice Vanessa Francis from Miri. She was crowned by Miss World Malaysia 2018, Larissa Ping on 29 April 2023 at Kala Dana Beach, Mukah. Background ''Teluwaih Jinih'' literally means "beautiful lady" in the Melanau language and is one of the main event during Kaul Mukah festival. The pageant is open for participants of Melanau descent ages 18 to 30 and is held to find the icon for Melanau women aside from promoting and enliven the festival itself. The competition has the concept of showcasing the traditional Melanau attire and contemporary attire that is prepared by the participants themselves and was conceived specially to promote the Melanau traditional attire to those people who never knew about the Melanau culture.
