Katia (film)
''Katia'' is a 1938 French historical drama film starring Danielle Darrieux. The movie was directed by Maurice Tourneur, based on novel ''Princesse Mathe Bibesco'' by Marthe Bibesco under the pseudonym Lucile Decaux. It tells the love affair of Russian princess and Czar Alexander II. It was remade in 1959 with the same title, which starred Romy Schneider. ''Magnificent Sinner'' (original French title: ''Katia'') is a 1959 French film by director Robert Siodmak about the romance between Tsar Alexander II of Russia and the then-schoolgirl Catherine Dolgorukov, who later became his mistress and finally his morganatic wife. It stars Romy Schneider as Katia, a schoolgirl who becomes the Tsar's mistress and Curd Jürgens as Tsar Alexander II of Russia. The film, originally released as ''Katia'', was a remake of a 1938 French film of the same name, which starred Danielle Darrieux. Thérèse Dorny (born Thérèse Jeanne Longo-Dorni; 18 September 1891 – 14 March 1976) was a French film and stage actress. Biography Thérèse Jeanne Longo-Dorni was born on 18 September 1891 in Paris, Île-de-France, France, the only child to Gaudence Jean Baptiste Marie Longo-Dorni (born 1859) and Marie Antonia Longo-Dorni (née Junghanss, born 1865). She began her career as a stage actress in 1913, and made her debut as a film actress in the 1930 film The Sweetness of Loving. She was best known for her roles in Cognasse (1932) and Les Diaboliques (1955). Dorny married the French painter and graphic artist André Dunoyer de Segonzac on 19 December 1964 in Viroflay, Île-de-France, France, who she remained with until his death in 1974. Maria Alexandrovna ( rus, Мария Александровна), born Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine (8 August 1824 – 3 June 1880), was Empress of Russia as the first wife and political adviser of Emperor Alexander II. She was one of the founders of the Russian Red Cross Society. The legal daughter of Grand Duke Ludwig II of Hesse and Princess Wilhelmine of Baden, Wilhelmine Marie was raised in austerity but was well educated by her mother, who died when her daughter was very young. She was only 14 years old when the Tsesarevich Alexander Nikolaevich (later Tsar Alexander II of Russia) fell in love with her while he was traveling to Western Europe. She arrived in Russia in September 1840, converted to the Eastern Orthodox Church, changed the name Wilhelmine Marie for Maria Alexandrovna, and took the title of Grand Duchess.
